Ktis lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains and brings together several distinct travel themes: Ktišský rybník, marked hiking trails, protected nature and architectural history. Natural bathing is possible at the pond; at the Dobrá Voda Chapel, a Stations of the Cross trail runs along the slope of Ktišská hora. If you are looking for accommodation in Ktis, these specific themes can help you choose what interests you about the area. Water, hiking trails and architectural history offer different starting points for planning your trip.

At Ktišský rybník: Water and Hiking Trail

Ktišský rybník covers about five hectares. Natural bathing is possible there, and the green-marked KČT hiking trail Ktiš–Březovík runs along the dam. This brings together two different points of interest at the same body of water: a bathing spot and a named hiking route. When planning, you can decide whether natural bathing or the hiking trail along the dam is your main priority.

In the municipality of Ktiš, the Miletínky Nature Reserve protects remnant stands of serpentine pine with juniper in the shrub layer. This adds a botanical focus to the area's water and hiking themes. While Ktišský rybník can be characterised by its size and the possibility of natural bathing, Miletínky is distinguished by its protected plant communities.

Hiking Trails and Stations of the Cross

There are two named hiking routes to choose from. The green-marked KČT hiking trail Ktiš–Březovík runs along the dam at Ktišský rybník. The yellow-marked Ktiš–Miletínky route was rerouted onto paths outside the Boletice military area; KČT described this route in 2025. The two paths can therefore be distinguished by their markings and descriptions: the green trail runs along the pond dam, while the yellow one follows a route outside the Boletice area.

A Stations of the Cross trail is located at the Dobrá Voda Chapel on the slope of Ktišská hora. Its stations form a circle about 50 metres in diameter. This circular layout is the defining spatial feature of the trail and offers a different point of reference from the marked routes, each with its own name and course.

Local History and Architecture

The Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostel svatého Bartoloměje) in Ktiš was originally Gothic and was remodelled in the Baroque period. This gives it two distinct architectural phases: its Gothic origins and its later Baroque redesign. The original settlement of Ktiš was founded on the estate of Zlatá Koruna Monastery before 1369. This founding date provides a point of reference for the settlement's history, while the church is notable for its architectural history and the change in styles.

Open Air Fest Ktiš

The municipality of Ktiš is the main organiser of Open Air Fest Ktiš. The venue is the sports ground behind the village, in the direction of Volary. If you would like to include the festival in your trip, check the specific event date. This lets you plan around a suitable date without treating the event as interchangeable with the area's natural and cultural attractions.
