Nové Domky lies on the right bank of the Lipno Reservoir. Three topics are particularly useful for getting your bearings: nature reserves, a road cycling route through the locality, and the settlement’s history, which ranges from the name Neuhäusel to the near-total end of permanent settlement.

Landscape and Nature

The regional biocorridor RBK 3054 Čertovo kopyto–Předmostí runs through Nové Domky. The locality is considered valuable from a nature conservation perspective. The extensive regional biocentre RBC 557 Čertovo kopyto is also designated nearby. These two terms refer to different areas: the biocorridor runs through the locality, while the biocentre is nearby.

The Čertova stěna–Luč National Nature Reserve is located within the municipality of Loučovice and features a unique sea of boulders and the romantic valley of the Vltava. The Čertovo kopyto rock formation is a remarkable but little-known feature in the area around the Lipno Reservoir. Its name comes from a boulder that closely resembles a hoof.

Cycling and Hiking

After crossing the dam, the ROAD 4 – Kolem Lipna road cycling route passes through Nové Domky. The first section of ROAD 5 – Do Krumlova is identical to ROAD 4, so it also passes through the locality. This is the shared section to note when comparing the routes: the route through the locality is already at the beginning of ROAD 5 and is not a separate stretch.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads to Čertovo kopyto from the car park by the dam. Trail markings and access conditions may change; check them before setting out. ROAD 4 passes through Nové Domky, while the blue-marked hiking trail leads to the Čertovo kopyto rock formation.

History of the Settlement

The historic settlement of Nové Domky consisted mainly of smallholders’ homesteads. The name Neuhäusel was first used for Nové Domky in 1710. After the war, the original population was expelled; Nové Domky was partly resettled. However, the construction of the Lipno Reservoir and the subsequent establishment of a border zone led to the near-total end of permanent settlement.

Lippnerschwebe (Lipenský zdvih) was a former timber-floating meadow with a nearby terminus of the same name, and formed a distinct historic part of the Nové Domky settlement. A former historic locality on the right bank, part of the original settlement, is now completely submerged beneath the waters of the Lipno Reservoir.

Where to Stay in Nové Domky

Apartmány HÁJOVNA is located in the Nové Domky locality towards Přední Výtoň, 1.5 km from the Lipno Reservoir dam. Situated on a hill, it offers panoramic views of the reservoir and surrounding nature. When looking for a holiday apartment, distance, direction and the view are useful details to compare with your preferences for location and outlook.
