Visitors choosing Třebeč as a destination can focus on nature, local traditions or cycling. The topics range from a protected pond ecosystem and the original protection of sand martins to a recurring Masopust custom and two different cycling-related attractions. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which of these themes should guide your travel plans.

Nature: pond ecosystem and sand martins

The Chrastí Natural Monument, including its protection zone, covers part of the cadastral area of Třebeč. It protects the ecosystem of a mesotrophic to eutrophic pond, with lush vegetation and important communities of aquatic and wetland organisms. The terms mesotrophic to eutrophic describe the pond’s nutrient range. The protected ecosystem therefore includes the water body itself, as well as its vegetation and the communities living in and around the wetland.

The Pískovna Třebeč area has a different protection status. It was temporarily protected and originally designated to protect sand martins. Chrastí represents the protection of a pond ecosystem; at Pískovna, the original reason for protection was a bird species. This contrast offers nature enthusiasts two distinct topics: the pond’s communities here, and the original protection of sand martins there.

Masopust and milling heritage

The Masopust in Třebeč ends at midnight with the annual symbolic burial of Masopust. This traditional custom includes a procession of masked participants going from house to house. The Masopust leads the Masopust singers and marks the spots for the traditional dance circle by striking the ground with a flail. Together, the procession, the marked dance spots and the symbolic ending make up a clearly defined sequence of events.

Brouskův mlýn is another cultural point of interest. The mill is located on the road between Třebeč and Jílovice, next to the Třebeč sawmill grounds. There is a dated relief above the mill entrance. While Masopust is shaped by recurring customs, the relief at Brouskův mlýn provides a specific architectural point of reference. Check access in advance if you are planning a visit.

Cycling around Třebeč

The “Na kole okolo Bor(ůvk)ovan” cycling route passes through Třebeč and continues to Dvorec. It is 33 kilometres long, rated easy, and suitable for families with children as well as recreational cyclists. Check the route information again before setting off. Another cycling-related attraction is the Borovany children’s cycling circuit, where Třebeč is a stamp-collecting stop. The ride to Dvorec can be assessed by its length and difficulty, while the children’s cycling circuit is identified by its stamp stop. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between a graded cycling route and stamp collecting on the children’s cycling circuit.
