The long valley on both sides of the Oleška gives Levínská Olešnice a distinct landscape setting. The village also has the All Saints’ Church, an ensemble of sculptures and the history of Hrad Levín. This makes it possible to combine local history, landscape and hiking when planning your trip. It is particularly useful to distinguish between a red-marked trail to Hrad Levín and an easy hike from Nová Paka to Levín.

The Valley and Historical Traces

Levínská Olešnice lies in a long valley on both sides of the Oleška stream. To the north, the valley is bounded by the hills of Hradiště and Zakopanice, and to the south by the Staropacké hory. In the southwestern part of the village are the remains of a fortified site east of the railway bridge over the road to Levín. The village’s setting therefore encompasses both its landscape and a tangible historical feature.

All Saints’ Church and Sculptures

The All Saints’ Church has been mentioned since the 14th century and was enlarged in 1833. These dates mark different stages in its history: an early mention and a later structural extension. The church is associated with an ensemble of twelve statues, a statue of the Holy Trinity and a cross. The sculptures in Levínská Olešnice are listed as cultural monuments of the municipality.

A sandstone group of the Holy Trinity was created by Josef Kuhn in 1890. Its plinth is elaborately decorated in the Neo-style; a carved inscription dates from 1896. This makes it possible to distinguish the date of creation from the date of the inscription. The group stands in the village centre, on the left side of the road towards Vrchovina.

Hrad Levín and Excursions

The former castle of Hrad Levín stood on a wooded rocky promontory in the Staropacké hory range. It is believed to have been founded around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries; a member of the Načeratic family may have built the castle. The founding date therefore remains a historical assumption, and the possible attribution to a founder is also uncertain.

There are two options for excursions: a red-marked hiking trail leads to Hrad Levín; the excursion from Nová Paka to Levín is an easy, 13-kilometre route focused on geology and history. The first option leads to a specific historical destination, while the second combines a stated distance and difficulty level with a geological and historical focus.

A 2024 report mentions an information board and a simple place to sit by a fire pit at the restored Hradiště Levín. Check on site whether these facilities are available during your visit.

Getting Around and Accommodation

A description updated in 2020 of the situation in 2016 places the Levínská Olešnice railway stop about 200 metres from the village centre. It also mentions a signpost for tourist routes near the stop; from there, you can head to nearby Hrad Levín or into the Oleška Valley.

When looking for a hotel in Levínská Olešnice, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: local history, including the church and sculptures, or a visit centred on Hrad Levín and hiking. This lets you tailor your accommodation search to the travel interest that matters most to you.
