Radčice can be explored through three specific themes: the view from Draha, the Černostudniční hřeben hiking trail that runs through the village, and the history of roofing slate mining. If you would like to combine landscapes and cultural history, you can weigh these features as different focal points for your trip. The viewpoint draws your attention to named mountain ranges and destinations; the hiking trail places Radčice along a route. The geological history of the quarries is another aspect.

Views from Draha

From Draha, locally known as Bučka, the view extends to the Krkonoše Mountains and part of the Jizera Mountains. Kozákov and Suché skály can also be seen to the south. The panorama therefore encompasses both named mountain ranges and individual landscape destinations. If the scenery is what matters most to you, Draha is the specific point of reference in Radčice. Radčice is a starting point for many excursions in both summer and winter, so you can consider the village for trips in either season.

Hiking trail through Radčice

The major Černostudniční hřeben hiking trail passes through Radčice. It runs from Berany, at the foot of the Jizera Mountains, through the village towards Kozákov, the highest peak in the Bohemian Paradise. This gives you two distinct perspectives to consider when planning: Draha offers views of the landscape, while the hiking trail follows a route through Radčice. If you would like to make a hike the focus of your trip, you can use this route to situate the village.

Slate in settlement and building history

The first written mention of Radčice dates from 1543. The village’s oldest log cabins also have a distinctive layout: they were arranged in a horseshoe shape. Roofing slate quarried in Radčice was used, among other things, on historic buildings throughout Bohemia. The horseshoe-shaped layout describes the form of the settlement; the use of slate points to a material history that extends beyond the village.

Quarries, rock and fossils

The Radčice–Jirkov–Jílové geological site comprises a group of abandoned, overgrown and partially flooded roofing-slate quarries. The age of the slate-bearing rocks is estimated at 470 to 480 million years. Within the site, the Tlukačka quarry is one of the locations where trace fossils, mollusc fossils and trilobites have been found. This theme brings together the rock, its former use and palaeontological finds.

Small ponds remain where the former quarries once stood, and they often serve as natural swimming spots in summer. If you would like to swim there, check access and swimming conditions locally. This summer activity adds a seasonal travel-planning angle to the geological and historical perspectives.

Getting there and planning

From 15 April to 14 July 2026, IDOL bus route 851 served the Radčice stop on the route between Jablonec nad Nisou and Železný Brod. Check the timetable for your specific travel date before setting off. This will let you plan your journey using the timetable period that applies.

If you are considering Radčice as a place to stay overnight, first think about which theme you would like to shape your stay: views, the hiking trail or slate history. These focal points give you a specific starting point for choosing your destination.
