Besedice combines a sandstone labyrinth with viewpoints, historic sites, and marked trails. Nature and local history give the destination two distinct focal points. When planning, the exact names of the rock formation, viewpoints, and routes are useful; the accessibility limitation of Besedické skalní město is equally important.

Sandstone Rocks and Valley Views

Besedické skály is a labyrinth of sandstone rocks and scenic viewpoints. Chléviště is the main rock formation. From the well-known Husníkova vyhlídka, you can look out over the Jizera Valley. This gives you two distinct landmarks here: the central rock formation and a specific view of the valley. The yellow-marked circular trail passes through the most important areas of the Besedické skály natural landscape. If you use this route for planning, check the local signage.

Chapel and Historic Sites

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in Besedice village square. The brick building has a bell tower and was built by local residents. The chapel is a folk monument to local masonry and stone-carving traditions from the second half of the 18th century. It thus connects a specific place in the village with a clearly defined local craft tradition.

The refuge of the exile Václav Sadovský ze Sloupna is located in Chléviště. Secret services of the Bohemian Brethren were held at Svatyně Kalich during the Counter-Reformation. At U Kalicha, amid five rock gorges, there is an altar with a carved chalice and the year 1634. These places offer different historical points of reference: a named person, a religious use, and an altar with a specific year. The year 1634 provides an earlier point of reference than the chapel’s dating to the second half of the 18th century.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Route

The Zlatá stezka Českého ráje hiking trail also passes through Besedice. The Kolem Besedických skal circular trail starts at a car park in Besedice. Together with the yellow-marked circular trail, these provide different route references: the yellow-marked trail passes through the most important areas of the rock landscape, while the Zlatá stezka runs through Besedice and the starting point for Kolem Besedických skal is specified. Check the yellow trail’s signage on site. Car park information may change; confirm it before your visit.

For cyclists, a marked route passes the chapel in Besedice and continues through Michovka to Zbirohy. In the Jizera Valley, it connects with the Greenway Jizera trail. The chapel and the named places along the route provide specific points of reference. Route conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Accessibility

Besedické skalní město is not accessible to wheelchair users or people with strollers. If you are planning an outing with a wheelchair or stroller, take this limitation into account when making your choice.
