At the crossroads with the war memorial, regional cycling route No. 2068 reaches Chodovská Huť. There is also an information board about the village. Local history and cycling directions thus come together at one specific point. Check the signs on site if you are following the route.
Local history with specific dates
Chodovská Huť was founded in 1687 as a settlement for the poorest miners from Tři Sekery. The village was formerly called “Dolní Šmelctál.” Its foundation and former name tell two different parts of its history: the year marks its origins as a miners’ settlement, while “Dolní Šmelctál” records an earlier name.
The history of education here includes the former traveling school. It was given its own building in 1884, which still stands in Chodovská Huť today. The war memorial was erected on September 13, 1925. It is dedicated to the residents who fought in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The three dates show a clear sequence: the 17th-century foundation was followed by the school building in the 19th century and the early 20th-century memorial. The school building and the memorial represent different historical connections; the memorial’s dedication names the residents it commemorates.
Historical context and landscape
Chodovská Huť was the southernmost of three settlements arranged from north to south: Tachovská, Plánská and Chodovoplánská; Chodovoplánská is now called Chodovská. This sequence places the village within a historical north–south progression. The Kajetán pond lies in the border forest, through which the Tichá stream flows.
Cycling route, continuation and detour
Cycling route No. 2068 reaches Chodovská Huť at a crossroads with the war memorial. From Chodovská Huť, the route continues along cycle path No. 36 to nearby Plánská Huť. This identifies two different points of reference: arrival at the crossroads in Chodovská Huť and continuing toward Plánská Huť. Before setting off, check the current route and the signs on site. The route numbers distinguish between arrival and onward travel.
The Jasan pana Šolce ash tree is 500 metres off the cycling route. There is a bench beneath the ash tree with a view of the village. If you plan to stop there, check its condition on site. The detour to the ash tree and continuing along the cycle path are different options to consider when planning your route.
When choosing a destination, the local history and cycling route appeal to different interests: the dates place Chodovská Huť in its historical context, while the route numbers help you plan the cycling connection and a detour. Consider which perspective matters more for your stay before looking for a holiday apartment.
