You can get to know Bezvěrov through a specific hiking route and a local history dating back to the 13th century. These offer two different ways to plan your trip: you can explore the place through the route of an event edition, or follow historical traces from the town’s name to a stone monument. You can decide which perspective interests you more before looking for a holiday apartment.

Hiking and route selection

The 15th edition of the hike and social event “SETKÁNÍ V BEZVĚROVĚ” was scheduled for 13 September 2026 and was due to end in Bezvěrov. That date has now passed. For this edition, a route from Výškovice to Bezvěrov was planned: it was 4.3 kilometres long, with optional detours extending it to 7.3 kilometres. The three-kilometre difference comes from the detours.

The planned route was to pass a monument along an avenue. An optional detour led to restored small monuments in a patch of woodland and in fields. The route description thus distinguishes between the stretch along the avenue and monument and the additional option of taking a detour to the small memorials. These details relate to the event route for the 2026 edition.

Local history and the monument

Until 1945, Bezvěrov was known by the German name Weserau. Its first written mention dates to 1273: a papal document issued by Pope Gregory X mentioned the place as a possession of the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá. The year marks the first written mention, not the date when the place was founded. This distinguishes two historical details: the medieval documentary reference and the German place name used until 1945.

A stone monument dating from 1860 has been preserved in Bezvěrov and was restored by the town of Teplá. The local farmer Karl Punzet had the monument erected as a votive offering after surviving an accident on 11 July 1854 involving a cart loaded with stones. A relief on the side depicts this very accident. The years mark different aspects of the story: 1854 is the year of the accident, while 1860 is the date of the surviving monument. The account thus links a specific person with an event and its visual depiction.

Getting there and planning your trip

Road II/198 runs through Bezvěrov. Check current road conditions before setting out if you are planning to drive. When looking for a holiday apartment, another decision may help: are you more interested in local history, or would you like to explore the route description for the 2026 edition? The historical topics range from the medieval documentary reference to Karl Punzet’s story; the event route offers a clearly dated route description with optional detours. This lets you decide in advance what you would like to focus on during your trip.
