Two circular routes, a publicly accessible botanical garden and archaeological traces give Dallwitz (Dalovice) several ways to explore the area. You can easily tailor your visit to your own interests: would you like to pass every stop on the nature trail, learn about plants, or explore the history of the buildings and the town?

Dalovice Nature Trail: two circular routes

The Dalovice Nature Trail offers two circular routes. The longer one passes all ten stops; the shorter skips one stop and goes through the town centre. The choice therefore comes down to two specific differences: whether you want to visit all the stops and whether you want the route to pass through the centre. Choose the longer loop if you want to include all ten stops. The shorter route is the option that goes through the town centre.

Castle park and botanical garden

Since 1958, Dalovice Castle Park, the New Castle and the bust of K. T. Körner have together been a registered immovable cultural monument. Its registration number is 38621/7-779. There is also a viewing pavilion in the castle park. From there, you can look out over the Ohře Valley and Drahovice, a district of Karlovy Vary. The protected Körner Oak is also in the castle park; it is estimated to be 700 to 900 years old.

Dalovice Botanical Garden offers a different focus. Its collection of regional flora from the KarlovarskĂ˝ kraj includes about 170 plant species. There is also a collection of 40 species of cultivated field crops. The two collections offer different perspectives on plants: regional flora on the one hand, cultivated crops on the other. The garden is open to the public free of charge.

Archaeological finds and architectural history

The Tvrziště in Dalovice comprises the remains of a Gothic fortress. The foundations of a square residential tower are also displayed there in situ. Excavations uncovered Neolithic pottery, dating to around 5,000 BC, as well as other small finds from various periods up to modern times. The finds therefore span a much longer period than the medieval fortress alone.

Another chapter in the area’s architectural history is linked to Starý zámek, which began as a Renaissance fortress in the early 16th century. After a fire in 1899, it was converted into a Neo-Baroque château. The Neo-Romanesque Church of “Panny Marie Utěšitelky” was built in 1929; its entrance porch is the former village chapel. The porcelain factory also reflects a change over time: its production, originally focused on stoneware, was increasingly expanded to include porcelain around 1830.

Hike to the Körner Oak

A yellow-marked hiking route leads to the Körner Oak from the main post office. The hike is about 3.1 kilometres long and takes around 47 minutes. These figures give you an idea of how long the walk to the tree takes; conditions on the route may change, so it is worth checking them before setting off. The Körner Oak is freely accessible, although its access status may also change. The botanical garden, castle park and hike to the oak each offer a different reason to explore Dallwitz and its attractions.
