The Cínová stezka, or Tin Trail, runs between Boží Dar and Ryzovna; it was created as a symbol of cooperation between the Czech Republic and Saxony. In Ryzovna, the trail, landscape and local history come together. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether the choice of trails, nature or places of remembrance should be the deciding factor for your stay.

Landscape, access and trails

The Ryžovna Nature Reserve protects a geological phenomenon and typical mountain communities of the Ore Mountains. Geology and mountain communities are therefore part of the natural environment, just as historic places are part of the cultural heritage. You can reach Ryžovna via a hiking trail, by bicycle or by car. These three options give you a concrete framework for planning your journey.

The Cínová stezka, or Tin Trail in English, runs between Boží Dar and Ryžovna. There is also an approximately 12-kilometre educational trail with 23 stops along the Blatenský vodní příkop. The trails can be distinguished by different features: the Tin Trail’s endpoints are named, while the educational trail is described by its approximate length and number of stops. This gives you different points of reference when choosing a trail, without confusing its length with its route.

Historically, the Blatenský vodní příkop ran from the Božídarské rašeliniště via Myslivny and Ryžovna to Bludná. This route places Ryžovna within a longer sequence of named places. The historic route and the educational trail along the water channel offer two different perspectives on the same name: one is a historic route through places, the other an educational trail with a stated length and number of stops.

Local history and remembrance

Ryzovna was founded around the middle of the 16th century. The place name derives from washing tin ore from gravelly sediment. The name thus refers to a specific tin-mining process and adds another aspect of local history to the approximate founding date.

The Church of St. Wenceslas in Ryžovna was built in the early 19th century in the Josephine style. A memorial cross, a miniature of the Church of St. Wenceslas and a plaque on a stone mound mark the church’s former site. The date and style of construction provide a historical point of reference; the three markers draw attention to the former site. For a visit focused on cultural history, it is worth keeping these aspects distinct rather than combining them into a single historical period.

Erected in 1930, the war memorial to the First World War commemorates a total of 42 soldiers from Ryzovna who were killed, died or went missing. The year refers to the memorial’s erection, while the number 42 is the total number of soldiers commemorated.

A recurring annual occasion is also part of local history: every year in Ryzovna, gatherings in honour of St. Wenceslas are held on the feast of St. Wenceslas. The theme therefore includes not only historic buildings and memorials, but also a gathering associated with the feast of St. Wenceslas.
