The protected Church of St. Nicholas complex shapes Vidice’s historic character. The ensemble comprises the church, bell tower, perimeter wall with gate and associated grounds. Protection therefore covers more than just the church building. The church and cemetery are the town’s landmark. A centuries-old memorial lime tree stands beside it. A church already stood in Vidice at the beginning of the 14th century.

Churches, Castle and Spa History

The hunting lodge in Roztěž was built in 1669. In 1909–1911, the castle was remodelled to designs by the architect Leopold Bauer in the Viennese Secession Classicism style. The castle grounds include a chapel, a terrace with sculptures, a grotto, a terraced garden and a castle park. The two dates distinguish its construction as a hunting lodge from the later remodelling phase.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Help in Lázně is an Empire-style building dating from 1817–1820. The grounds of the Lázeňský dům with this chapel include a terrace, a covered access to the spring, former spa buildings and a former forester’s lodge. The former spa facilities in Lázně were a destination for visitors from Kutná Hora. Their former role as an excursion destination is therefore part of the spa history, just as much as the surviving buildings.

The former spa grounds in Roztěž also include distinctive structures: a stone fountain and three barrel-vaulted bridges. Chronologically, the building histories mentioned here span from the Church of St. Nicholas at the beginning of the 14th century, through the hunting lodge of 1669 and the chapel of 1817–1820, to the remodelling of 1909–1911.

Landscape and Geological Features

The area east of the road towards Mezholezy–Vidice–Košice lies within the “Údolí Bylanky a Vrchlice” Nature Park. The nature park protects wooded and, in places, rocky valleys cut by streams, as well as xerothermic communities on Cretaceous sediments. Xerothermic refers to communities adapted to warm and dry site conditions. Alongside the historic sites, this offers clearly defined landscape features and conservation themes to explore.

Near Nová Lhota, the sandstone quarries are in terrain without paths and more than 250 m from the road. Bear both conditions in mind if you are planning a visit. One of the quarries is known for the discovery of a dinosaur skeleton from the Iguanodontidae family. The fossil find and the specific access conditions are two distinct aspects that you should take into account together when planning.

Golf, Cycling Route and Sports

Casa Serena in Roztěž 1, Vidice, is an 18-hole golf course with a par of 71 and a length of 6,364 m. Access may change, so check current visiting options before making plans.

The CKH14 “Do Uhlířských Janovic” cycling route passes through Vidice. It is 53.6 km long, with a possible deviation of ±5%. The distance refers to the route as a whole, not just the section through Vidice. The VSH multi-purpose sports field in Roztěž can be used for tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, handball and football.

The activities described here range from a cycling route with a stated total length, through a golf course with specified course details, to a multi-purpose field for several sports. The different details help you compare the offerings by type without combining them into a single route or fixed day plan.
