There are many different ways to spend your time in Mazotos: Camel Park combines a swimming pool with donkey and pony rides; the Costas Argyrou Museum displays stone and wood sculptures, mosaics and paintings; and the organized beach at Pouzis is equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas. Archontariki is part of Petreon Sculpture Park and hosts various exhibitions. Before looking for a hotel in Mazotos, you can first decide what matters most to you: art, leisure activities or time at the beach. Each place offers distinct, clearly defined options to consider.
Leisure at Camel Park
Camel Park was established as a camel farm in 1998. The year puts its origins in context and gives the leisure destination a historical connection. Facilities and activities include a swimming pool, as well as donkey and pony rides. The pool and rides offer different kinds of activities: one focuses on the water, the other on donkeys and ponies. This gives you a concrete basis for deciding whether these activities suit your interests. The availability of facilities and activities may change, so check what will be available before your visit.
Art and exhibitions
Archontariki, a venue for various exhibitions, is part of Petreon Sculpture Park. The Costas Argyrou Museum has a different focus: it mainly displays stone and wood sculptures by Costas Argyrou. The collection also includes mosaics and his paintings. The gallery is located on the east side of the main building and contains religious mosaic images, as well as cenotaphs of Argyrou and his wife. A cenotaph is a symbolic tomb. The term helps distinguish these monuments from the religious mosaic images. When planning cultural activities, you can distinguish the museum, with its own collection and gallery, from Archontariki, an exhibition venue in the sculpture park.
Beach and archaeological site
The organized beach at Pouzis is equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas. Before your visit, check whether these facilities are operating. The Mazotos shipwreck is also located in the sea near Mazotos. On a sandy, almost level seabed, about 500 to 800 visible amphorae can be found, most of them from Chios. They lie across an area measuring 16 Ă— 6 metres. The number, origin, area and seabed give the site a specific archaeological profile. Its location in the sea sets it apart from the art sites on land: the museum and Petreon Sculpture Park feature sculptures, mosaics and exhibitions, while the shipwreck is about amphorae on the seabed. The area is considerably longer than it is wide.
