When looking for a holiday apartment in Lageia, it helps to consider the village and its nearby surroundings separately. Its geographical location, the uphill forest road, an old mill building, a memorial outside the village, and two cycling routes provide concrete points of reference.
Location and landscape
Lageia lies on the southern slopes of Mount Κιόνια (Kionia), in the mountainous region of Larnaca and a few kilometres beyond Lefkara. Larnaca, Nicosia, and Limassol serve as reference points in the wider area: the village is 45 kilometres west of Larnaca, 47 kilometres southeast of Nicosia, and 46 kilometres northeast of Limassol. The three cities indicate different directions, while Lefkara offers a closer point of reference. This provides orientation both in the surrounding area and in the wider geographical context.
The uphill road to Lageia passes through dense, green pine forest. Along the way, there are several places to stop and enjoy the panoramic view. The hillside location and the course of the road describe different aspects: the southern slopes indicate the village’s location, while the forest and views are part of the ascent itself. This distinction is useful when choosing a location, because the destination’s geographical position and the landscape along the way are not the same thing.
The village and the memorial
An old mill building is a distinctive feature of Lageia. As a built landmark, it complements the geographical and landscape context with a specific feature of the village. This means the village’s character can be understood not only through the mountain and the wooded road, but also through the mill building.
About one kilometre outside Lageia, on the road towards Ora, stands the memorial to Nikos Andreas Kyriakou. He was killed by Turkish fire on 23 July 1974. The word “outside” places the memorial separately from the village itself, while the road towards Ora locates it in the nearby area. The memorial therefore provides a specific historical point of reference outside Lageia. The mill building in the village and the memorial nearby are consequently two distinct geographical reference points.
Cycling routes through Lageia
The “Terraces of Agioi Vavatsinias” cycling route is 56.8 kilometres long and passes through Lageia. Larnaca 6 runs from Vavla through Lageia and on to Ora. The two routes offer different ways to get your bearings: for the first, the total distance is a concrete point of comparison; for the second, the sequence Vavla–Lageia–Ora helps you follow the route. To compare them, consider whether the route’s length or the order of its named places is more useful to you.
The distances to the cities and the length of the cycling route are different measures: the former place Lageia in its geographical context, while the latter describes the overall length of a route. Route conditions can change; check the current conditions for your chosen route before setting out on a cycling trip.
