Posedarje lies on the northwestern shore of the Novigrad Sea. Beaches, churches dating from different periods, a Way of the Cross and a hill overlooking the town and sea offer a range of points of interest for your trip. When planning, it is worth considering beach conditions, cultural interests and event dates separately.

Beaches with Different Features

At PlaĹľa Posedarje, light-coloured pebbles and natural shade from trees shape the shoreline. Shade and beach conditions can vary seasonally. Jet ski rides are also offered there; availability may change with the season. Check what is on offer before your visit if this activity is important to your plans.

PlaĹľa Sveti Duh is a relatively shallow pebble beach, suitable for children and less experienced swimmers. It is enclosed on all sides, with a small channel leading in from the north. A promenade along the shore is ideal for leisurely walks. The two beaches therefore differ in their described features: PlaĹľa Posedarje is known for its pebbles, tree shade and jet ski rides, while Sveti Duh has a shallow pebble shoreline and a promenade.

There is also healing mud at PlaĹľa Sveti Duh. If you would like to include this in your plans, check the conditions and access locally.

Churches, the Way of the Cross and Views

Crkva Sv. Marije in Posedarje is a medieval single-nave building constructed on the site of an earlier Romanesque structure. Crkva sv. Duh, the Church of the Holy Spirit, is also single-nave and dates from the 12th century; it is located on an island off Posedarje. At Sv. Marije, the building’s history and its Romanesque predecessor are the main points of interest, while Sv. Duh is distinguished by its date and island location.

A boat pilgrimage to the island beside the Church of the Holy Spirit is part of the Pentecost tradition. Check the exact date locally if you would like to plan your trip around it.

The KriĹľni put (Way of the Cross) consists of fourteen stations and the Resurrection. A depiction of the Last Supper stands on the summit of Brisnica Hill. From there, you can enjoy a view of Posedarje and the Novigrad Sea. These cultural sights have different emphases: the Way of the Cross is arranged around its stations, while Brisnica combines the depiction with views of the town and sea.

Festivals and Culinary Traditions

The wider culinary context around Posedarje and the Novigrad Sea includes fresh produce and traditional recipes passed down through generations, as well as olive oil, regional wines, meat dishes, fruit, vegetables and shellfish.

The annual Fešta od ribe i vina (Fish and Wine Festival) serves grilled fish sourced directly from local fishermen. Dates and programmes may vary from year to year. The traditional Trka magaraca (Donkey Race) is one of the biggest events of the year. If you would like a festival to help determine your travel dates, check the relevant dates before planning.

Cycling and Getting Around Općina Posedarje

Cycling is one of the activities particularly highlighted for an active holiday in Posedarje. The wider Općina Posedarje area has numerous cycling routes that are considered challenging for active holidaymakers. Check the route and conditions locally if you plan to include cycling in your trip.
