In the Municipality of Poličnik, traces of history meet a protected natural area and local produce. The Gradina fortress and the Church of St. Nicholas give Poličnik its own cultural and historical character. At Lake Vlačine in Suhovare, the landscape, birds and fish take centre stage; in Murvica, visitors can also enjoy horseback riding, tastings and an orchard. This allows you to combine different interests when choosing your destination, without reducing the municipality to a single attraction.

History at specific sites

The archaeological remains of Gradina fortress in Poličnik date from the 16th century and are protected as cultural heritage. The site offers a tangible way to explore the municipality’s history, focusing on the surviving remains and their historical context. The churches also make their own mark in terms of time and architecture. The Church of St. Nicholas is in the heart of Poličnik. Built in 1978 on the site of an older church, it has a spacious nave and two bells. In Dračevac Ninski, the Church of St. Martin dates from 1785. These different dates and locations help you appreciate the area’s historical character beyond a single building. The Kovačević family home is another of Poličnik’s historical attractions.

Lake Vlačine and the landscape

Lake Vlačine lies in the area of Suhovare. It is protected under the Natura 2000 network and designated as a bird protection area; it is also known for its abundant fish and birdlife. Fishing on the lake is considered an active tourism offer in the municipality. Nature and activity are therefore among the themes described here, while the protected status also highlights the area’s importance for birds.

As part of the revitalisation project, a shelter for the recreation centre was built by the lake for all lake visitors. From Poličnik, you can also enjoy views of fertile fields, dense forests and the Velebit mountain range. If you want to make landscape and nature the focus of your trip, the lake and the views offer two different starting points: the protected habitat around Suhovare and the panorama from Poličnik.

Murvica: produce and experiences

Visitors can go horseback riding at a local ranch in Murvica. Regional products are also in the spotlight: liqueurs, wine, cheese and cured meats are available for tasting directly from the producers. There is also an OPG family farm with an apple orchard and other fruit-growing areas that visitors can tour. These experiences give your travel plans a different focus from the historical attractions or Lake Vlačine: you can concentrate on local produce and agricultural experiences.

Olive oil and running routes

The first “Dani maslinovog ulja” event took place in March 2025 at the Poličnik Centre for Development and Education. Samples from local olive oil producers were collected and chemically analysed. The quality results were then announced and successful producers were recognised. A second event took place in Poličnik on 13 March. It included the assessment of olive oil samples and a professional programme.

The Visočane Trail offers a sporting perspective. Its first edition in 2026 included a 5-kilometre run for recreational runners and families, as well as a 17-kilometre run. The two routes differ clearly in length; the shorter one is specifically described as being for recreational runners and families.
