The Municipality of Čačinci can be explored through two distinct highlights: the forest landscape around Jankovac and cultural and historical sites such as Klak Fortress. The Čačinački Ponds near Čačinci and other points of interest in Slatinski Drenovac add to the experience.

Jankovac: Forest, Karst and Nature Trail

Jankovac is a mountain valley on the northern slopes of Papuk, at an altitude of 475 metres above sea level. The forest park was designated a protected forest park in 1955 and is surrounded by a hundred-year-old beech forest. Its karst features include sinkholes, springs and caves. This makes geological features as much a focus in Jankovac as the forest itself.

The Grofova educational trail runs past the Jankovac mountain lodge, the Jankovac Lakes and the Skakavac waterfall. Information boards along the route explain natural and cultural and historical features. The route is designed for everyone, especially schoolchildren, who can explore the area with an expert guide. Along the Jankovac–Klak route, multilingual boards also provide content in German, English and Hungarian via QR codes.

Access to Jankovac Forest Park is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. Check opening hours again before your visit.

Klak Fortress and Slatinski Drenovac

The medieval Klak Fortress lies south of Slatinski Drenovac at an altitude of 305 metres above sea level, above the gorge of the Jankovački potok stream. Its layout is adapted to the limited space: an irregularly shaped well stands in the middle of the courtyard, and two round towers of unequal size form part of the fortress. The walls remain standing to a height of 6 to 9 metres. Klak thus offers a clear cultural and historical counterpoint to Jankovac’s natural landscape and nature trails.

Slatinski Drenovac offers further cultural attractions: the Church of St. George is designated as a cultural landmark. The medieval knight tournament is also held there every year. If you would like to plan your trip around a tournament, check the dates in advance. The Planinarski dom Jankovac restaurant is also located in Slatinski Drenovac; check current opening hours before dining there.

Čačinci: Ponds and Getting Your Bearings

The Čačinački Ponds lie at the western entrance to Čačinci, below Mount Vranovac. They consist of two fishing waters with abundant fish stocks and are managed by the ŠRU “Klen” fishing association. Visitors interested in local events will also find “Ribička večer” in Čačinci; check specific dates before planning your trip.

Tourist information is available from the Vrata Papuka Area Tourist Board at 2 Kardinala Franje Kuharića Street in Čačinci. This makes it easy to combine questions about getting your bearings in the area with a visit to Čačinci, while Jankovac and Klak each offer their own natural and cultural highlights.
