In Novo Zvečevo, geology meets trails through the landscape of western Papuk. At the entrance to the village, the Geopoučna točka Zvečevo features original rock samples and information panels explaining the region’s geological diversity and how the rocks formed. There is also the Zvečevo trail, a route for walking and running, as well as two cycling routes. The options range from a geology-themed stop to specific trails for your stay.

Geology at the geopoint

The station combines observation with explanation: the samples illustrate the diversity of western Papuk through original rocks, while the panels focus on how they formed. Anyone interested in geology can move from examining the material itself to considering how rocks form. This gives the landscape at the entrance to the village a clear geological context. The geopoint also serves as a shared starting point for activities: the Zvečevo trail starts and ends there, and both cycling routes start here. You can plan the station as a themed stop in its own right or as a reference point for a tour afterwards.

Meadows and woodland in western Papuk

Novo Zvečevo lies within Papuk Nature Park, in surroundings shaped by meadows and woodland and associated with western Papuk. This landscape provides the setting for the geological focus and the trails. Those who want to experience the nature park landscape and geology together will find both reflected in the character of the village: the surroundings as a landscape setting, and the geopoint as a close-up look at the rocks and how they formed.

Walking or running the Zvečevo trail

The Zvečevo trail is a 7.82-kilometre route for walking and running. The start and finish are at the geopoint; along the way, the route follows forest roads beside the Brzaja and Mala Brzaja streams. Walking the loop takes about one hour and 50 minutes. You can use the distance and approximate walking time together to plan your day, adding breaks as needed. The geopoint marks both the start and the finish of the loop.

Comparing the two cycling routes

Both cycling routes start at the Geopoučna točka. Route 13 is 17.2 kilometres long and follows a forest gravel road alongside the Brzaja streams. Route 15 is 19.6 kilometres long and mostly follows gravel roads beside the Bistrica and Krajčinovica streams. The difference between the two distances is 2.4 kilometres; the streams mentioned and the roads described also distinguish the routes. This makes it easy to compare the shorter Route 13 with the longer Route 15 without choosing based solely on the route number.

There are different factors to consider when choosing between the activities: you can gauge the walking and running route by its approximate duration, and compare the two cycling routes by distance and course. If you plan to walk, the stated walking time offers a guide for your day. By bike, you can choose between two circular routes with different lengths and streamside scenery. The geopoint also anchors these options in Novo Zvečevo’s geological theme.

Conditions on the hiking route may vary; surfaces and conditions on the cycling routes may also change. It is therefore a good idea to check current conditions before setting out.
