A bell tower provides a tangible link to the past: the bell tower of the Old Cemetery of Saint Apollinar was built in 1618 and remains a symbol of Dubašnica. The Old Cemetery marks the site of the original parish church. This place thus brings together an enduring landmark and the memory of the former church site.
Coastal promenades, hiking and cycling trails
In the Municipality of Malinska-Dubašnica, several promenades link the beaches. Dubašnica’s cycling routes offer a different perspective on the landscape: they lead inland from the coast through centuries-old oak forests and olive groves. The coast and the island’s interior emerge as distinct landscapes, reflected in the routes described here.
The local network of walking and running routes spans 50 kilometres. Named routes include H114 – Cesta maslina, a three-kilometre circular hiking trail that starts in Porat. The B413 – Srce Dubašnice MTB loop also starts and ends in Porat. It is 18 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 240 metres. These figures illustrate the different route distances; the operator may revise the B413 details. Check the latest route description before setting out.
The trails also vary in character: the Mihojski puti hiking trail combines history, natural landscapes and the cultural heritage of the island of Krk. The B412 – Putevima svetaca MTB route leads from Sv. Vid through olive groves to the abandoned village of Sršići. Together, these descriptions show how nature and culture take on distinct roles along the different routes.
Church sites and stone heritage
The Chapel of Saint Andrew is the oldest surviving chapel in Dubašnica. Originally Romanesque, it dates from the 13th or 14th century. The Chapel of Saint Nicholas was built in the 14th or 15th century; its remains are in Strilčići. Remnants of wall paintings survive on its south wall and on the walls of the sanctuary. The two chapels represent different periods in the area’s architectural history.
The Franciscan monastery of the Third Order is located in Porat. The present design of its outdoor area, with a cloister and central well, dates from the 17th century. A lapidarium in the monastery courtyard houses Croatian Glagolitic stone monuments: the Baška Tablet, the Senj Tablet, the Grdoselo Fragment, the Krk Inscription and the Valun Tablet. The collection brings together several named historical objects in one place.
The late antique religious complex of Cickini was built in the 5th or 6th century. In Sv. Vid-Miholjice, the permanent Cickini archaeological collection displays fragments of stone liturgical furnishings and decorated architectural sculptures. Visitors interested in earlier architectural and religious worlds can encounter both a historic religious building and its stone furnishings here.
Local history, seafaring and tradition
The House of Dubašljan Heritage is an old rural dwelling built around the mid-19th century for two families. Workshops held there focus on traditional gastronomy, forgotten skills, traditional music and the Glagolitic alphabet. If you are interested in a particular workshop topic, check program availability before your trip.
The DUBoak Maritime Heritage Centre is located on the Malinska waterfront, at a historic seafaring site: ships loaded with timber departed from there for Venice and nearby Rijeka. Another tradition in Dubašnica is Sensa, the shepherds’ cheese race, popularly known as “Teć za sir.” Together, DUBoak and Sensa tell different stories of local heritage: historic shipping and a long-standing tradition centred on shepherds and cheese.
