St. Anne’s Church, several stone crosses and the Lipovački Path give Lipovača two clearly distinct sides: local cultural history and routes for walking or cycling. There is also an annual small-sided football tournament held in memory of two former club members. This gives you no pre-set itinerary for planning your trip, but rather a choice of focus between local history, club life and activity.

Church, Crosses and Local History

Among the cultural heritage sites associated with Lipovača is St. Anne’s Church at Sv. Ane 30. The new church was built on the site of a destroyed church. At its consecration, it received a new altar and an altarpiece of St. Anne. Its construction history and furnishings give the church site a clear historical and religious focus.

A stone votive cross dedicated to St. Procopius stands at the corner of Sv. Ane and Grobljanska. Lipovača’s cultural heritage also includes a stone Roman Catholic cemetery cross and a stone Orthodox cemetery cross. The cemetery is south of the settlement, by the Bobotski Canal. Each landmark has a distinct association: the votive cross is dedicated to St. Procopius, while the other two are cemetery crosses.

A report from June 2019 records that a temporary Orthodox place of worship was set up next to the votive cross of St. Procopius. According to the report, Mihailo Čanji was baptised there in 2019, the first baby mentioned in this context. This personal story adds to the history of Lipovača’s religious sites.

An Annual Event in Club Life

The “Tomislav Živković/ Jozo Stjepanović” small-sided football tournament is held in Lipovača every year. It commemorates former club members Tomislav Živković and Jozo Stjepanović. Thus, in addition to its sporting character, the tournament has a local commemorative significance. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the date for the relevant year.

The Lipovački Path and Route Planning

The reconstructed Lipovački Path connects Vukovar with the Lipovača suburban settlement. A footpath and a cycle path were built as part of the reconstruction. The two types of path offer different starting points for planning: you can make walking or cycling the focus of your visit.

A 2021 tourist map lists Lipovača and the Lipovački Path in connection with hiking trails and cycling routes. Check the waymarks on site before choosing a route. This helps you distinguish the general connection to the path from your actual route choice.

Vukovar as a Separate Cultural Setting

Vukovar offers its own cultural setting alongside Lipovača’s local themes. Vukovar lies at the confluence of the Vuka and the Danube. The Eltz Manor houses the Vukovar City Museum, whose permanent exhibition spans a period of 8,000 years. The Homeland War Memorial Centre in Vukovar presents the exhibition “Sjećanje na Domovinski rat – Bitka za Vukovar”; its visitor programmes connect memorial sites in Vukovar.

Another cultural landmark in Vukovar is the water tower, a protected cultural asset and a technical as well as memorial monument. It is 50.33 metres high and was built between 1963 and 1968. These examples from Vukovar broaden the range of themes without replacing Lipovača’s own connections to its church, crosses and paths.
