The Municipality of Topusko is best understood through the interplay of thermal waters, history and landscape. In Topusko, mineral springs and a long spa history shape the town: the hyperthermal springs reach temperatures of 56 to 72°C. Topusko lies in the Glina Valley, on the slopes of Petrova Gora and Zrinska Gora. Here, different aspects of the destination meet—from healing waters and historic sites to forest habitats.

Thermal Waters and Spa Tradition

Lječilište Topusko is supplied by three main springs and several smaller thermal springs. The water is used to treat and rehabilitate conditions and injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system, nervous system and muscles. Topusko began to develop as a spa town at the start of the 19th century. The springs give this history a tangible connection to the town’s landscape.

Hotel Top-Terme Topusko offers five outdoor pools that differ in size, depth and temperature. The Top-Terme complex also includes beach volleyball, three tennis courts, bocce and mini golf. The hotel spa complex offers wheelchair access, lifts, ramps, and fixed or mobile pool lifts. As access and facility details may change, check them before your trip. If you are travelling specifically for treatment, also confirm the individual treatments available in advance.

Traces of Different Eras

The area’s history reaches back further than its spa development. At the beginning of the 13th century, Cistercians settled at the site of today’s Opatovina Park. The Neoclassical parish church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Topusko dates from 1829. Another historical trace is the Turska Kosa archaeological site, one of the protected cultural properties of the Municipality.

Eight protected cultural properties in the Municipality of Topusko are listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Properties. Turska Kosa is among them. Register entries may change. Together, the sites reveal different aspects of the cultural heritage, from an early medieval settlement to a Neoclassical parish church and an archaeological site.

Forest, River Valley and Protected Landscape

Part of the Petrova Gora protected landscape lies within the Municipality of Topusko. The area is protected for its forest habitats, stream valleys, and landscape and cultural-historical values. The forests of Petrova Gora include beech, hornbeam, sessile oak and sweet chestnut, and provide diverse habitats for plants, animals and fungi.

The natural attractions of the Municipality include thermal and drinking-water springs, Nikolino Hill, English Park, promenades, the Glina River and watermills. Alongside the spa history, the area’s waters and forest landscapes are also worth exploring. Topusko itself lies in the Glina Valley, on the slopes of Petrova Gora and Zrinska Gora—a geographical setting that highlights the connection between the town and its landscape.
