Circular Walks and Views

Two circular walks offer different highlights in Tuheljske Toplice. The marked Oko Tuheljskih Toplica trail takes approximately three hours. It starts at the old pools, passes Mihanović Castle and the hamlet of Kuhari, and returns through the surrounding hills. The approximate duration provides a guide for planning your time; the stops link pools, castle, hamlet and hilly landscapes into a clear route.

Another circular walk passes Mihanović Castle, Črešnjevec, vineyards and traditional wine huts before returning to Tuheljske Toplice. While the approximate walking time is known for Oko Tuheljskih Toplica, this route is defined by the sequence of its stops. This can help you decide whether you prefer a walk with a predictable duration or a route featuring vineyards and wine huts.

A separate viewpoint is the Baroque Church of the Holy Three Kings. It stands on a hill southeast of Tuheljske Toplice, on the Mokrice–Kumrovec road, about two kilometres before the settlement. From there, you can see Tuheljske Toplice and the surrounding hills. The church thus offers a different perspective on the landscape from the two circular walks.

There is also a way to learn about the area in Tuheljske Toplice itself: information boards for the “Zagorske priče” project feature QR codes that provide access to multimedia content.

Culture and Landscapes in Općina Tuhelj

Tuhelj lies at the foot of Cesarska gora, by the Horvatska River. Tuhelj is also home to the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a cultural monument of the highest category. Parish records date its construction to the period between 1350 and 1390. Architecturally, it is a single-nave Late Gothic building with a Late Baroque bell tower.

A distinctive feature is the wrought-iron entrance door dating from 1805. It is adorned with a bronze crucifix by Croatian sculptor Antun Augustinčić, created in 1942. The Chapel of St Joseph stands above Tuhelj’s old cemetery and was first mentioned in 1727.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross stands in the village of Sveti Križ. It was built in 1831 on the site of a Gothic chapel first mentioned in 1519. A densely leafy path leads to the chapel, which is considered peaceful and quiet. Its construction history and various historical associations offer a cultural counterpoint to the walking trails and water attractions in the wider destination.
