Bilo lies along the routes of Ruta 21 and Ruta 22. The recommended direction of Ruta 21 passes through the village between Podcetin and Gnojnice; Ruta 22 passes through Bilo on its way to Cetinski Varoš and Podcetin. Nearby are also the Chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul in Bilo-Kosica and the historic site of Cetin. This brings both route details and local and regional history into focus when planning your trip.

Cycling routes through Bilo

Ruta 21 is a 49 km paved loop. It starts in Rastoke and connects parts of the municipalities of Slunj and Cetingrad. In its recommended direction, it runs from Podcetin through Bilo to Gnojnice. Its length, surface and route provide three concrete points of reference for assessing whether this route suits your ride.

Ruta 22 also passes through Bilo and continues to Cetinski Varoš and Podcetin. It starts and ends in Rastoke and has an elevation difference of 623 m. In comparison with Ruta 21, the elevation figure and the two endpoints are the main details here, while Ruta 21 is described as a paved 49 km loop.

The 2024 Cetingradska osmica course also passed through Bilo and was 45 km long. This distance applies to the 2024 edition. The route and the dated course offer different points of reference if you would like to combine cycling with a detour into the surrounding area.

Cetin: Fortress and History

From Bilo, Ruta 22 continues to Cetinski Varoš and Podcetin, where the medieval old town of Cetin is located. The historic fortress has Frankopan origins dating back to the 14th century. It was later conquered and altered under Ottoman rule. Its history thus spans several periods and different eras of rule.

Remains within the complex include the Ičizar citadel, the Drenđula tower and Turkish walls. In its later form, Cetin was an Austrian fortified barracks, surrounded by Turkish walls and bastions. The surviving walls are considered suitable for archaeological research and tourist visits. Mala Crkvina is also one of the archaeological sites associated with Cetin.

The Chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul

The Chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul is a chapel of the Cetingrad parish, located in Bilo-Kosica. Vinko Lončarić and Vinko Božičević built it in gratitude for having survived the Homeland War. This dedication connects the religious site with a specific personal memory. A large wooden shelter was built beside the chapel, intended to provide protection from rain and to be used for Mass and meals.
