In Veliko Trojstvo, cultural sites meet routes through the Bilogora landscape. The Ethno Park showcases traditional rural life and crafts; the Church of the Holy Trinity and the wooden sculptures of Svijetle pruge offer further perspectives on the history and culture of the place. For trip planning, there is an information point in the centre to help with choosing places to visit, planning your day and finding accommodation.

Culture among churches, the Ethno Park and wooden sculptures

The present-day Church of the Holy Trinity was built over a period of seven years, beginning in 1768. It is registered as an immovable cultural property under reference number Z-2111. The Ethno Park combines traditional architectural displays with an ethnographic collection of around 1,000 exhibits. They illustrate the life, culture and customs of Bilogora.

The ethnographic courtyard contains an old Bilogora house, a barn, a granary, a bread oven, a corn crib and a well. The buildings give the theme of rural life an architectural dimension; the collection complements them with insights into past ways of life. Visitors to the Ethno Park can also learn about old crafts, folklore and life in the former Bjelovar-Bilogora County.

The Svijetle pruge open-air gallery presents another form of culture. The wooden sculptures were created through a collaboration between Croatian Forests, Bjelovar-Bilogora County, the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and Veliko Trojstvo. Some of the sculptures are located in Veliko Trojstvo. The place therefore offers different ways to explore culture through historic architecture, ethnographic objects and contemporary woodwork.

Landscape, views and outdoor activities

In the Veliko Trojstvo area, the Bilogorski Tourist Road winds over the gentle slopes of Bilogora, through forests and past fertile fields and vineyards. Above the town stands Bilogorski Čardak, a wooden replica of a watchtower that also serves as a viewpoint. From there, the view extends to the slopes of Bilogora, Kalnik and Zagrebačka gora. The site is landscaped and includes a children’s playground; it is also used as a horse rest stop on the Bilogora riding trail, as well as for picnics and gatherings. As facilities and uses may change, check the current situation before your visit.

The BILOgravel network also focuses on the viewpoint above Veliko Trojstvo: all the described routes start there. Circular routes and alternative directions offer a choice of more than 400 kilometres of cycling options. Trail markings and route options may change; check them locally. For planning purposes, it is helpful to note the difference: the galleries and collections provide cultural stops, while the cycling routes offer several directions and longer rides.

Products, events and accommodation planning

The tasting room at OPG Bačak in Veliko Trojstvo can accommodate up to 35 people and is used for tastings, light meals and family dinners. The farm’s range includes various types of squash, sweet and savoury spreads, pumpkin flour products, pasta, bread and homemade biscuits. Capacity, services and product selection may change; confirm details in advance if needed.

The “Autumn in Bilogora” event has been held at the Ethno Park since 2017. Its programme includes ethno performances, products from local farms, music and family activities. Dates and programme items change; check the details for your planned visit. Another option for a longer stay is the Ivica Pirin family farm, which can accommodate guests and board horses for extended stays. Confirm current availability before travelling.

The Bilogorski Tourist Road information point is in the centre of Veliko Trojstvo. It helps visitors plan an itinerary, choose suitable places to visit and find accommodation. As visitor information may change, enquire in advance about what is currently available. For those looking for accommodation, the town thus connects specific cultural and landscape interests with a point of contact for planning.

Other cultural sites also provide a broader view of the municipality. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in the cemetery in Veliko Trojstvo was built in 1858 and restored in 1883, 1959 and 1996. The Chapel of Saint Florian in Maglenča was first mentioned in 1893; a new chapel was built there in 1971.
