Daruvar can be explored through several distinct highlights: thermal waters, historic baths, parks and forest trails. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether spas, city history or outdoor activities will shape your stay. The difference between Daruvar Spa and the Aquae Balissae Thermal Aqua Park offers a good place to start.

Thermal Waters and Baths

Daruvar Spa is in the heart of Daruvar, by springs of thermal water and mineral mud. The spa uses acratothermal water at 46.6°C and therapeutic mineral mud. Facilities include two outdoor pools and an indoor thermal-water pool, as well as a fitness area, sauna, jacuzzi and massage.

The Aquae Balissae Thermal Aqua Park is 300 metres from the town centre, by the Toplica River and next to Julijev Park and the sports and recreation zone. Its water area covers more than 2,000 square metres. It offers pools for adults and children, slides and a quiet river over 200 metres long. The indoor area also has a 25-metre pool, a children’s pool, a cave, a slide, a whirlpool, Finnish saunas and a steam room. The two places have different emphases: Daruvar Spa combines thermal water and mineral mud, while Aquae Balissae is defined by its water areas and variety of pool zones.

Parks and Historic Baths

Julijev Park is a 9.5-hectare landscaped park with trees more than 150 years old. Its features include Baroque elements and elements of the English landscape garden style. The bathing park is home to historic buildings, including Antun’s Baths, Ivan’s Baths, Swiss Villa, Villa Arcadia and the Central Mud Bath.

The Daruvar Local History Museum is housed in the protected 18th-century Janković Castle. Visitors can also tour the castle’s interior. The museum presents Jewish cultural traditions, exhibitions on wartime and galleries by Eva Fischer. The Jewish cemetery, a protected cultural monument dating from the early 19th century, is also located in Roman Forest. These places offer different perspectives on the town’s history: the castle and museum bring together exhibitions, while the cemetery is a historic place of remembrance in the forest.

Roman Forest and Activities in the Surrounding Area

Roman Forest is a 20-hectare park forest with gravel paths and benches. It marks the start of a hiking route towards Petrov vrh, Vranjevina, Vrani Kamen, Crni vrh and Kiku. The forest is also home to Julius Brum, a spring associated with the local legend of the Spring of Love. This small area lets you include nature, a hiking trail and a local legend in your plans.

Other activities can be found nearby: fishing is possible at the Jezero sports pond beside the Toplica River, and cycling is also highlighted in the surrounding area. Nearby Petrov Vrh has a mountain lodge in a forest clearing, as well as sledding and skiing areas. You can consider these options alongside the town’s attractions and thermal facilities when planning your stay, without combining them into a single excursion programme.

Winegrowing and Brewing Traditions

Daruvar’s local wine route draws on centuries of winegrowing. The brewing history is another local point of interest: Pivovara Daruvar has operated at the same location since 1840 and is Croatia’s oldest brewery using traditional Czech brewing techniques. Together with the thermal waters, parks and historic sites, these offer a range of themes to explore during your stay.

Which of these takes priority depends on what you would like to do during your stay.
