City routes, park walks and religious architecture give you different ways to plan a trip to Villavicencio. Three routes differ in length and the places along the way: one leads to Monumento a Cristo Rey, one passes through La Pradera and by Cueva del Cachicamo, and another goes through the Veredas del Carmen and Samaria to Buenavista. When choosing, it is worth considering both the route length and its landmarks. There are also walking paths in Parque Los Fundadores and the Nuestra Señora del Carmen church as a cultural point of interest.
City routes by itinerary and length
The Cristo Rey circular route begins in the city center at Parque Infantil. Stone steps lead to Monumento a Cristo Rey, which offers a view of the city. The route then passes Concha Acústica Arnulfo Briceño and follows a paved road back to the center. The entire circular route is 1,255 meters long.
The La Escalinata route begins in Barrio El Triunfo on Carrera 42. It crosses the bridge over Caño Parrado, passes through La Pradera and by Cueva del Cachicamo. The route is 1,740 meters long.
The Vereda del Carmen route is 9,533 meters long. It begins at the top of the road by Villacentro shopping center and passes beneath the road to Bogotá. It then climbs to the school in Vereda del Carmen, continues to Vereda Samaria and descends to Buenavista.
The lengths offer three different scales: at 1,255 meters, Cristo Rey is the shortest route; La Escalinata falls in between at 1,740 meters; and Vereda del Carmen is the longest at 9,533 meters. The waypoints also differ: city views and a monument, a bridge and a cave, or the Veredas all the way to Buenavista. If the sequence of places matters more to you than the route length, you can choose a route based on these features.
Park walks and religious architecture
Parque Los Fundadores has walking paths for exercise or leisurely strolls. It also has a fountain and more than 200 parking spaces. Here, you can choose between exercising and taking a leisurely walk. If you are arriving by car, check the parking situation in advance, as space availability may change.
Of the Archdiocese's 76 religious institutions, Nuestra Señora del Carmen is considered the most representative religious building in Villavicencio and the Department of Meta. The church therefore adds a religious and cultural focus to your choice of places to visit. If you would like to consider religious architecture in addition to walks, it is a destination in its own right.
