Silvania’s history comes to life in its main square and founding story. There are also museums with different access conditions, a distinct focus on music, trails with clearly named destinations, and a municipal recreational area. This lets you choose what to focus on when planning your outings: historic sites, culture, trails, or sports and leisure. The specific differences are especially important for planning—for example, access to the Alcaldía Museum is tied to municipal office hours, while another museum reserves the right to admit visitors.

History in the Main Square

Silvania was founded at this location on February 21, 1935, by Dr. Ismael Silva and farmers from Hacienda El Chocho. The evening before, they planned the boundaries of the square around a campfire, and it became the center of the municipality. The main square is in the center of the town and is a public place of historical, social, and cultural significance. The founding and the square are therefore directly connected: planning the square was part of the town’s history, and the square provides a tangible point of reference for local history.

Another perspective is offered by Iglesia Parroquial María Auxiliadora, considered a historically and architecturally significant building in Silvania. The main square and the church thus represent different aspects of the town: the founding and public importance of a central square, on the one hand, and the church’s architecture and history, on the other.

Museums and Music

The AlcaldĂa Museum is free to enter for residents and visitors during municipal office hours. Access is therefore tied to those hours. Check them before your visit so you can plan your museum trip accordingly.

Different conditions apply at Museo Silvania Tierra de Promisión: admission is subject to a reserved right of entry governed by the museum administration and the owners of Miscelánea Santa Martha. If you are planning a visit, coordinate with the relevant parties in advance. The different access rules at the two museums are an important practical distinction when choosing cultural activities in Silvania.

Museo Templo del Vallenato offers a distinct musical focus. It has a space for Parrandas Vallenatas, where musical performances and gatherings with live music take place. If you are particularly interested in attending one of these events, confirm the specific date in advance.

Trails and Named Destinations

The trail is part of Silvania’s first tourist route, “Paseo a Los Puentes.” Its summit is listed as 60 meters high, and the trail is 400 meters long before ascending to Alto de Santa Rita or de la Luna. The route is thus characterized by a specifically named section and destination.

The Sendero Peatonal Alto del Siete connects Silvania’s town center with Alto del Siete. This prominent elevation lies on the Cuchilla de Santa Paz between the Los Puentes and El Progreso neighborhoods. The different destinations can help guide your choice: Paseo a Los Puentes names Alto de Santa Rita or de la Luna, while Sendero Peatonal Alto del Siete leads to the elevation of the same name. This makes it possible to distinguish the two trails by their respective landmarks.

Sports and Leisure at Villa OlĂmpica

Villa Olímpica has several sports courts, a children’s playground, a traffic-safety practice course intended for children’s education and entertainment, a small protective forest, and extensive grassy areas. The grounds offer space for sports, leisure, and family activities. Alongside the sports facilities, there are areas for children and green spaces.

Villa OlĂmpica is municipal public property with free access. It serves Silvania residents as a gathering place for sports and leisure and as a way to strengthen the community. As access rules may change, check them before your visit.
