If you are looking for accommodation in Casablanca, you can organize the destinations in the associated municipality by theme: nature and Muisca history, archaeological heritage, and museums and motorsports. This way, planning begins with the question of which interests you want to shape your stay. The municipality’s destinations appeal to different interests; they do not automatically form a single excursion itinerary.

Nature and Muisca History

The Reserva Natural Ecoparque Sabana is located on the grounds of the FundaciĂłn Parque Jaime Duque and covers 60 hectares. Its activities combine the preservation of life with historical memory and nature. Ecological themes and remembrance therefore sit side by side. The Sendero de la Memoria Muisca runs through the reserve: the loop trail is five kilometers long and uses displays to explore the history of Muisca culture.

The Humedal Jaime Duque adds nature observation to this focus. Birds that can be observed there include the Tingua moteada, the Pato turrio and the Monjita cabeciamarilla. There is also an educational area for families. The nature-related themes are therefore distinct: the trail presents Muisca history, while the wetland combines birdwatching with an educational area.

Archaeology, History and Rural Heritage

In 2018, the Abrigo Rocoso del Valle del Abra was declared a nationally protected archaeological site by ICANH Resolution 304. The year refers to its protection status and gives the site a specific connection to archaeology. The history of the Camino del Gone is different: the route is associated with the history of Valle del Abra. Early inhabitants of the areas of Tocancipá, Gachancipá, Nemocón and Zipaquirá traveled along it primarily to exchange goods.

Rural heritage has its own emphasis, too. Hacienda Normandía has a colonial manor house that is more than 150 years old and shapes the rural landscape of Vereda La Fuente. The Monumento al Ollero is based on an original drawing by the colonial-era painter Don Ramón Torres Méndez. It represents the traditional work of the area’s residents. While the manor house highlights colonial architectural history, the monument draws attention to traditional work.

Museums, Motorsports and Community Life

The Museo Aeroespacial Colombiano is devoted to the history of the military aircraft that have protected Colombian airspace. The Museo de Motos El Reto specializes in motorcycles and grew out of an interest in sharing their history and development in Colombia. The two museums therefore focus on different technical subjects: one on military aircraft, the other on motorcycles and their development.

Motorsports are also represented by the Kartódromo Juan Pablo Montoya. It is located in the northwestern part of the Autódromo de Tocancipá and opened in December 2002 in honor of Colombian racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya. The Festival de la Colombianidad offers a different glimpse of community life. It was created as a way to introduce the cultural, musical and recreational investments of the municipality to the community of Tocancipá and its visitors.

Organizing Interests for Your Plans

To choose a theme, you can first decide whether you are more interested in nature observation and Muisca history, archaeological heritage and historical records, or technical subjects. Kayaking at Parque Jaime Duque is listed as available only on weekends; check before visiting whether the activity is being offered then. When making specific plans, also check whether each facility or route is currently open to visitors. Choosing accommodation in Casablanca remains a separate decision.
