In the wider regional area around Baoshan, destinations highlight cultural history, architecture, and wetland landscapes. Several of the places below are located in Longyang. To help plan your trip, first consider whether you would rather prioritize museums and historic buildings or lakes and nature watching.
Museums and Historic Buildings
The Baoshan Museum is a public, nonprofit cultural institution. Its responsibilities include collecting and exhibiting cultural artifacts, education, field archaeology, monument preservation, and historical and cultural research. The museum building is modeled on an ancient bronze drum excavated locally. It is 19.6 meters high and has a maximum diameter of 56.6 meters. Four large reliefs on its drum-shaped wall depict the Jiulong legend, “Double Rainbow on the Silk Road,” “Elephants Plowing in Yongchang,” and “Crossing the Nu River.”
The opening schedule published in February 2025 listed opening hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday; last admission was at 4:30 p.m. The museum was closed on Mondays, except on public holidays. Check the museum’s current notice before visiting.
Another highlight is the Renshoumen Historical and Cultural Quarter. It was designated a provincial-level historical and cultural quarter in Yunnan in January 2022 and covers 17.89 hectares. It contains three immovable cultural heritage sites, nine historic buildings, 113 buildings with traditional architectural character, and nine traditional lanes. It also includes 20 elements of intangible cultural heritage. These figures illustrate the quarter’s different components: individually protected sites, historic buildings, streetscapes, and living cultural traditions.
Yiluo Pond: Mythology and Memory
Yiluo Pond, formerly called Jiulong Pond, is a prominent landmark in the historic and cultural city of Longyang and a recreational destination for local residents. It is connected with the Jiulong mythology of the ancient Ailao Kingdom and preserves memories of the War of Resistance in western Yunnan. Mythological traditions and historical memory therefore coexist at this site. A winding greenway runs through the grounds.
The pavilion on the lake houses the “Zhuoying” reading area, a reading and relaxation area, and a shelf of literature about Baoshan. The pavilion thus brings together literary exploration of the region and a designated place to read and relax. Plan your visit using the latest local notices.
Qinghua Hai: Lake and Wetland
Qinghua Hai National Wetland Park covers 1,363 hectares. Its tourist attractions include the landscapes of the West and East Lakes, the Yongzi Go Academy, and a waterfall landscape. Features described at the East Lake include the lake itself, a waterside walkway, a cascading waterfall, and the Rainbow Bridge. The Yongzi Go Academy introduces visitors to Yongzi culture and the history of Go. The park therefore brings together landscapes, water features, and a cultural theme.
Biodiversity is another notable feature of the wetland: 251 bird species have been recorded there. Surveys have also recorded 992 plant species, 18 fish species, 12 amphibian species, and 14 reptile species. Subsequent surveys may change the recorded numbers. If you plan to visit specific attractions, check the latest notices before your visit; facilities can change.
Taibao Mountain: Forest Park and Taoist Complex
Taibao Provincial Forest Park has a planned area of 485.7 hectares and 90 percent forest cover. It offers public opportunities for recreation, tourism, and physical activity. The planned area and forest cover describe different aspects of the park: its intended extent and the proportion covered by forest.
Yuhuang Pavilion is also located on Taibao Mountain. It was designated a National Key Cultural Heritage Site in 2006 and is among the largest and best-preserved Taoist architectural complexes from the Ming period in western Yunnan. Its site area is about 5,000 square meters, and its building floor area is about 2,000 square meters. These two approximate figures convey the scale of the complex, while its designation and place in architectural history offer another perspective on its significance.
