Bo'aozhen offers different starting points for planning a trip: Shami Village brings together a wetland, a coastal promenade, and a broad range of landscapes; in Liuke Village, Caijiazhai and its architectural history take center stage. Dongyu Island is both the site of a state-recognized tourism resort and part of the route of a cycling route segment.

Wetland and landscapes in Shami Village

Shami Village brings together different types of landscapes: mountains and forests, tropical rural scenery, hillside settlements, and river, sea, lake, and spring landscapes. A clearly specified route is the 1.8-kilometer coastal promenade along Shami's inland-sea ecological wetland. The village also has six purpose-designed viewing points. This means a promenade with a stated length sits alongside a broader range of landscapes. In 2019, Shami Village was awarded five coconuts, the highest rating for a rural tourism destination.

Dongyu Island and the cycling loop

Dongyu Island Tourism Resort is a state-recognized national tourism resort surrounded by water. The first section of the Qionghai cycling loop is 92.6 kilometers long and passes through Bo'ao and across Dongyu Island. The route's stated length gives cyclists a specific indication of the distance of this section; its waterside location describes a distinct landscape aspect of the resort. Together with Shami's 1.8-kilometer promenade, the comparison of distances shows different scales and forms: the two figures do not refer to interchangeable versions of the same route.

Architecture and family history in Liuke Village

Caijiazhai in Liuke Village is a group of ancestral residences with a total area of more than 3,000 square meters. The complex was built over ten years and remains completely intact despite war, human-caused destruction, earthquakes, and typhoons. Caijiazhai is considered a representative example of Hainan's overseas Chinese culture. A 2020 description lists the former Liuma ferry crossing and a riverside landscape belt in Liuke Village, Bo'ao Town, as completed or under-construction projects. It also names a tourist water route on the Wanquan River as part of the cultural and village renewal project.

The architecture also reflects several influences: the Southeast Asian Nanyang style is recognizable, while Caijiazhai also preserves local features of Hainanese residential architecture and incorporates Western relief motifs. This combination makes the site a tangible architecture destination, while its cultural classification draws attention to Hainan's overseas Chinese culture.

The former Haitang Study in Caijiazhai was described in 2024 as a museum presenting the family's history. This adds a distinct focus on family history to the architectural history. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the themes: Shami offers a landscape comprising several explicitly named forms and a promenade with a specific length; in Liuke, the focus is on architecture, preservation, and family history.
