In Maipo, wine and historic architecture sit alongside archaeological traces and nature conservation. These points of interest are spread across different municipalities and sectors.

Wine, Architectural History and Local Tradition

At the foot of the Andes, in the Alto Jahuel sector of the municipality of Buin, lies Parque de la Viña Santa Rita. The complex, declared historic monuments in 1972, includes the park, houses, chapel and wine cellars. The Santa Rita winery began selling its wines in 1882. Two distinct historical landmarks thus come together here: the start of wine sales and the later designation of the listed sites as historic monuments.

Mujer Andina Wines in Paine has a more recent business history: the family wine and sparkling wine venture was established in 2012. Its philosophy is primarily organic and environmentally friendly. Featured products include «Levita» sparkling wine, a 100% organic Syrah, and «Ai!» Brut Chardonnay–Pinot Noir. If you are looking for a specific product, check its availability separately. To sell its products, Mujer Andina Wines opened a bodega, intended as a contribution to the development of wine tourism in the municipality.

The Fiesta de la Vendimia de Buin is a family outing held in April. This specific event date complements the region’s longer history of wine and architecture.

Archaeology and Nature Conservation

The remains of an Inca archaeological site are located on Cerro Chena. The Chena and Lonquén hills are regarded as natural areas of high ecological and cultural value, as well as priority areas for biodiversity conservation in the Región Metropolitana. Here, archaeological heritage goes hand in hand with the importance of the landscape for nature conservation.

The El Ajial Natural Sanctuary covers 2,134 hectares in the municipality of Paine, Maipo Province. The private Altos de Cantillana Nature Reserve is dedicated to biodiversity conservation and also serves as a center for environmental education and scientific research. It is located on Camino Champa–Rangue at kilometer 20 in Aculeo. The location and its different conservation and educational functions give Maipo’s natural attractions a specific setting.

Zoo and Educational Visits

Buin Zoo is considered Chile’s largest private zoo. The Bioparque Buinzoo offers school groups educational visits at discounted prices. Visits can be self-guided or guided, and tailored to classroom content. Schools should confirm booking details directly with the operator.

When choosing where to stay, the places mentioned provide a geographic reference: Parque de la Viña Santa Rita is in Alto Jahuel in Buin; Mujer Andina Wines is in Paine.
