Two reservoirs surrounded by native forests define Colbún. The municipality is also home to the Paseo Pretil Machicura and Balneario Machicura; the town center complements the natural and water-focused attractions with its central square and traditional Chilean cuisine. Colbún therefore offers both scenic and aquatic experiences, as well as a distinctive town center.

Walk and take in the views at Embalse Machicura

Paseo Pretil Machicura is located in the municipality of Colbún, along Route L-11, opposite Embalse Machicura. The pedestrian promenade is 200 meters long and 6.3 meters wide. Benches and a viewpoint offer views of the reservoir and the surrounding natural landscape. Visitors can stroll there, enjoy the scenery, watch birds, and learn about them. This makes walking, views of the water, and birdlife distinct interests to enjoy side by side.

Beach and water activities

Balneario Machicura is located on the southwest shore of Embalse Machicura in the municipality of Colbún. Its beach is 150 meters long. The facilities also include a dock for non-motorized boats, a children's play area, and a picnic area; stalls run by local entrepreneurs round out the amenities. Embalse Machicura covers an area of 8 km²: this figure refers to the reservoir, while 150 meters refers to the beach's length.

The promenade and the Balneario offer different focal points: Paseo Pretil Machicura is centered on walking, views, and birdwatching, while the Balneario features a beach, dock, and places to relax. Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and water biking are among the activities at Balneario Machicura. Water skiing, kayaking, and sailing are listed as water sports on Lakes Colbún and Machicura. Kayaking is mentioned in both contexts; the other activities differ. If a particular water activity is central to your plans, check its current availability in advance.

Town center and the nature of the Maule Region

In the center of Colbún, the main square invites you to take a stroll. There are restaurants serving traditional Chilean cuisine around the square. A walk and a meal can thus be enjoyed as a distinct town-center experience, alongside outings to the reservoirs and into nature. Colbún offers both an urban setting and specific places to visit for scenery and water activities, making it easy to choose between these experiences.

In Colbún's natural surroundings, you can observe the native flora and fauna of the Maule Region. The regional context of Lago Colbún also extends across municipal boundaries: the ZOIT Lago Colbún–Rari includes parts of the municipalities of San Clemente and Colbún, which share administrative territory on the north and south shores of Lago Colbún. This broader context complements the view of specific places in the municipality of Colbún, from the Paseo and Balneario to the central Plaza.
