A 22-hectare wetland park, the long, narrow Laguna Chica and the black sand coast give San Pedro De La Paz a varied natural landscape. There is also a sanctuary that has been significant for centuries, as well as cultural venues. When choosing a hotel, you can consider whether landscape, water sports, the coast or cultural heritage should shape your stay.

Wetland and Lagoon

Parque Humedal Los Batros is the first wetland park in the Biobío Region and covers 22 hectares. Paths run through the wetland, offering clear views of its flora and fauna. The Laguna Grande–Humedal Los Batros complex was designated a Santuario de la Naturaleza in an entry dated March 3, 2022.

Laguna Chica is long and narrow, covers 0.72 km² and is surrounded by hills covered in vegetation. Rowing, windsurfing, sport fishing and other water sports take place there. The different natural features are distinct: Los Batros is known for its wetland landscape, flora and fauna, while water sports are a defining feature of Laguna Chica.

Coast and Fishing

Playa Lomas Coloradas has black sand and is used for fishing and walking. Because of its steep slope and consistently heavy surf, it is not suitable for swimming. The mouth of the RĂo BiobĂo is also used for artisanal and recreational fishing. If you are deciding between the coast and the lagoon, consider their different uses: Playa Lomas Coloradas is for walking and fishing, while Laguna Chica is for rowing, windsurfing and other water sports.

Religious Heritage and Culture

Santuario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria houses an image of the Virgin Mary that came from Spain and was brought to Chile around 1583. For centuries, the sanctuary has been a center of religious expression in the Biobío Region. Every year on February 2, the Virgen de la Candelaria is honored there with a ceremony.

Anfiteatro San Pedro de la Paz is a small, semicircular open-air amphitheater in Villa San Pedro. It hosts free cultural, musical, theatrical and dance events. If you want to plan your stay around a specific event, check its date.

The municipality of San Pedro De La Paz is home to Centro Cultural y Museo Comunitario Curarrehue, with a permanent exhibition of various weaving techniques, and its associated Multisala, which has served as a library and museum since 2007.

The municipality hosts the Cruz-de-Mayo celebration once a year in the area around Centro Cultural y Museo Comunitario Curarrehue. It includes a procession with songs and visits to neighbors. The route runs from Centro Curarrehue along Avenida Las Rosas to Avenida Los Claveles, then returns via Avenida Las Rosas. Since the route may change through future agreements within the neighborhood, check the date, route and participation requirements separately for a specific event.

The municipality’s Centro de Cultura Tradicional Curarrehue also preserves poetic, musical, textile, medicinal, folk religious, culinary and craft heritage.

When Mercado GastronĂłmico de Caleta Alto del Rey opened, it was equipped with five fully furnished food stalls and a dining courtyard serving typical dishes made with fresh seafood.
