Lazareto can be understood through two features located right next to each other: Praia de Lazareto and the public municipal sports park beside it. The park is intended for outdoor physical activities. This brings different interests into focus—the coastal landscape and outdoor exercise. Praia de Lazareto: Location and extent

A survey from May 2021 places Praia de Lazareto northwest of the city of Mindelo, between Monte Cara and Porto Grande Bay. It gives the beach’s length as approximately 1,100 meters and its average width as about 30 meters. The comparison illustrates its elongated shape: its length is considerably greater than its average width. Together, these approximate figures provide a more precise picture of the coastal area than a single measurement.

Access and directions

In the May 2021 assessment, access to the beach was described as well connected; cars and ambulances could pass. For your journey today, it is advisable to check the route in advance.

Sao Vicente: Views and historic buildings

In the wider destination of Sao Vicente, Monte Verde is an important natural viewpoint for mountain tourism. From there, you can see the entire island of Sao Vicente, as well as Baía do Porto Grande and the city of Mindelo. Santo Antão, Santa Luzia, and the Ilhéus Branco and Raso are also visible; on especially clear days, São Nicolau can be seen too. The coastal setting of the beach in Lazareto and the island views from Monte Verde thus offer different perspectives on the landscape.

Historic buildings are another focus on Sao Vicente. Liceu Velho – Gil Eanes is considered a historic building and is among the most remarkable buildings in the city of Mindelo. The Palácio da Justiça / Tribunal is also one of the historic buildings in Sao Vicente. Alongside the landscape and views, cultural sites can therefore be considered as a separate travel interest.

Marina do Mindelo offers berths for daily rental and longer-term lease. The two options differ in duration. Availability and terms may change; check them when making specific plans.

The broader themes of Sao Vicente complement this with mountain views, historic buildings, and berths at the marina.
