Choosing accommodation in Saskatoon is easier when you first sort out the experiences you want to shape your stay: historic park buildings and walking paths, birdwatching by the river, cultural attractions or food from Saskatchewan. The city offers a range of ways to explore these themes. The following places give your planning some specific areas of focus.
Park, Zoo and Play Areas
The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo is a National Historic Site. It features restored historic buildings and carefully landscaped gardens, and is also home to Saskatchewan’s only CAZA-accredited zoo. Forestry Farm Park also has walking paths and a fishing pond. This destination brings together architectural heritage, garden design, wildlife and trails.
Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park offers a different focus. It has a 20-metre-high Ferris wheel, a carousel and the Canpotex Train. The rides operate seasonally and are weather-dependent. There is also a free children’s area with water play, sand play and a climbing area. Before your visit, check which rides are operating on your travel dates.
The Meewasin Trail and The Weir
The Weir is an education and recreation hub along the Meewasin Trail, as well as a prominent landmark and attraction on the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon. Visitors can explore the site and go birdwatching. Unlike Forestry Farm Park, The Weir focuses on the river and birdwatching, while the zoo, garden areas and walking paths define a visit to the park.
The “Walking Routes & Maps” page provides access to the Meewasin Valley Trail map. You can use it to help plan your walk.
Architecture, Community Engagement and Aviation
Doors Open Saskatoon offers free tours, informative displays and exhibitions in buildings that are normally closed to the public. The event celebrates architectural heritage and community engagement. The program and participating buildings may vary with each edition, so check the information for your travel dates.
The Saskatchewan Aviation Museum & Learning Centre explores the importance of aviation to Saskatchewan’s transformation, development and future. The two offerings have different focuses: Doors Open highlights architecture and community engagement, while the museum focuses on the role of aviation in the province.
Food from Saskatchewan
Gather brings together local food and drinks from independent artisans, farmers and producers from across Saskatchewan. SaskMade Marketplace is a destination for tourists and residents who want to discover food as a farm-to-fork experience. Gather brings together vendors from across the province, while SaskMade puts this culinary experience centre stage. Gather’s selection of vendors and market program, as well as SaskMade’s product range, may change.
Transit and Choosing Where to Stay
Saskatoon Transit has more than 1,400 stops and serves nearly every neighbourhood in Saskatoon. The number of stops and network coverage may change. If you’re considering transit when choosing where to stay, check the latest information as part of your planning.
Then check the location of each accommodation option against your own plans.
