In Saint-Alexis-Des-Monts, hiking trails vary considerably in length, difficulty and access arrangements. There is also day fishing, a seasonal landmark and regional cuisine. You can choose what to focus on based on your preferred distance, time on the water, or cultural and culinary interests.
Hiking trails with different levels of difficulty
The Lac de l’Aqueduc trail is 6.0 km long, easy to moderate, and accessible for a day-use fee. Tonnerre is 18.0 km long, difficult and free to access. Tonnerre is therefore three times as long; the two trails also differ in difficulty and fee arrangements. Trail conditions can change, as can the access fee for Lac de l’Aqueduc. Check these details before setting out.
Nature, fishing and lake access
The Réserve faunique Mastigouche covers 65% of the municipality of Saint-Alexis-Des-Monts. Hiking lets you discover attractions in this vast natural area. Around 75 lakes are available for day-access fishing, and a boat is provided at most of them. Seasonal availability may change, so check the options before your planned visit. No reservation is required to access the Réserve: you can obtain an access permit at reception or online. The area is accessible via a well-maintained road network.
During the 2026 Festival de la Truite Mouchetée, visitors may fish without a fishing licence from the prepared shores of Lac Saint-Alexis-des-Monts or from a boat without a gas motor. Fishing regulations may change from one edition of the festival to the next.
Parc Riverain Sacacomie has a municipal boat launch providing access to Lac Sacacomie, whose shoreline stretches for 42 km. The park also has a picnic area and play structures.
Art, plant diversity and regional cuisine
Every summer, La truite géante is displayed on Lac Saint-Alexis-des-Monts and can be viewed from the Exina terrace at the tourism information office. The artwork is 4.3 m long and 2.1 m high. It was commissioned by the Comité Touristique in 2002 and created by local artist Pierre Meunier.
The gardens at Herboristerie Renessence include more than 500 plant species, including 200 varieties of medicinal plants. At Microbrasserie Nouvelle-France, visitors can sample beers brewed on site and enjoy traditional cuisine made with products from the surrounding terroir. Self-guided and guided tours are available.
Municipal activities in winter
The municipality lends snowshoes to adults and children free of charge; rental conditions may apply. It also provides snow tubes at the park in the town centre. These municipal offerings complement the hiking trails and lake activities with options for winter.
