With its active trails, Acadian heritage and wine, Bécancour offers different ways to enjoy a stay. Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly is located in Sainte-Marie-de-Blandford and is a hub for nature and outdoor activities. Exhibitions, a lookout tower and a winery offer more to discover.
Trails, Routes and Active Discoveries
Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly has 24 kilometres of well-maintained trails and marked routes. In summer and winter, these can be used for activities such as cycling and ski hok. Eight Hébertisme modules add to the park’s offerings. Alongside the trails, there are other activities to choose from if you’d like to spend time in Bécancour being active.
For cycling trips, there are two loops of different lengths. “Au fil de l’eau” is 54.3 kilometres long and follows Route 132. The “Lien industriel Bécancour” loop covers 9.4 kilometres and connects the Bécancour and Gentilly sectors. It is set up temporarily. The difference in length can help you choose, and each route has its own landmarks: Route 132 for “Au fil de l’eau” and the connection between the two sectors for “Lien industriel Bécancour.” Check route conditions and restrictions before setting out; the current status of the temporarily established loop should also be checked.
Beyond individual loops, the Route des Navigateurs follows an 85-kilometre tourist route with 21 attractions. It can be travelled by bicycle, motorcycle or car, and includes stops in Bécancour. This lets you explore the region in different ways without treating the entire route as being within Bécancour.
Acadian Heritage and Observations at the Wharf
The Société acadienne Port-Royal offers five exhibitions on the Acadian heritage of the city of Bécancour. The lookout tower at Quai de Sainte-Angèle offers another perspective on history: six panels cover the history of the city’s six sectors. The two sites offer culture enthusiasts different points of interest, from exhibitions on Acadian heritage to an overview of the city’s sectors.
Events and nature watching also come together at Quai de Sainte-Angèle. Every summer, the wharf hosts numerous events. Wading birds, gulls, ducks, herons and coots can often be spotted there. The site thus offers both a seasonal focus for events and opportunities to observe birds. If you’re interested in both, you can focus on different aspects of this same named place.
Wine and Accommodation
Le Fief de la Rivière is located in Bécancour’s Saint-Grégoire sector. The vineyard has more than 9,500 vines across three hectares and a total of twelve grape varieties. Le Fief also offers wine-tasting activities and packages. This adds a distinct culinary focus to the trails and cultural discoveries.
There’s also a specific accommodation option connected to the natural offerings: Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly offers camping, cabins and Ready-to-Camp accommodations. If you’d like to combine your stay with the trails or Hébertisme modules, you can include a suitable type of accommodation in your plans. You can tailor your time in Bécancour to your interests—for example, spending more time on cycling routes, Acadian heritage, birdwatching or wine.
