Temiskaming Shores combines waterfront experiences with river scenery, local history and golf. Haileybury and New Liskeard offer different highlights, from water activities to museums and golf courses.

Beach and Waterfront

The waterfront locations each have their own appeal: Haileybury Beach offers swimming, picnicking and relaxation, while the New Liskeard waterfront combines a beach and boardwalk with trails and sports facilities. Haileybury Beach is in Camsell Park at 309 Broadway Street. It is a fully enclosed sandy beach with treated water. The facilities include a 150-foot-long water slide, a water fountain and a water umbrella. Check the seasonal operating schedule for the water attractions before your visit.

The New Liskeard waterfront includes a one-mile-long beach and a boardwalk. There is also a walking and cycling trail, beach volleyball courts, basketball courts, baseball fields and public tennis courts. The New Liskeard Waterfront Marina is at the mouth of Wabi Bay on Lake Temiskaming. Visitors can choose from swimming and beach activities, as well as trails and public sports facilities.

River Scenery and Hiking Trail

At Pete’s Dam Park, a river trail, waterfall and rapids shape the landscape, offering a different way to experience the water. The easy hiking trail is 2.4 kilometres long and follows the river. The waterfall and rapids attract visitors for picnicking and hiking. Check current park access before setting out.

Geology and Local History

On the grounds of Northern College, RockWalk Park features nearly 200 geological exhibits. The Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum in New Liskeard preserves the cultural heritage of South Temiskaming through artefacts and documentation about the settlement history of the Little Claybelt region. The museum also offers a self-guided tour of an outdoor exhibit featuring antique agricultural equipment and tools. Combining settlement records and agricultural exhibits gives the museum its own distinctive historical focus.

The historical exhibits at the Haileybury Heritage Museum cover the experiences of early settlers, local sporting achievements, Canada’s first official airmail flight and Haileybury’s connection to the Hardy Boys. Temiskaming Shores’ cultural offerings cover different themes: RockWalk Park focuses on geology, while the museums explore settlement history and other local and Canadian historical topics.

Golf in New Liskeard and Haileybury

The New Liskeard Golf Club is a public 18-hole, par-72 golf course with a licensed clubhouse. From the community of Haileybury, the Haileybury Golf Club overlooks Lake Temiskaming. The two locations offer different points of comparison: New Liskeard’s course layout and par are specified, while Haileybury’s golf club is distinguished by its lake view.
