The 72-kilometre Prescott and Russell Recreational Trail runs through the entire United Counties of Prescott and Russell. In summer, it is used for hiking and cycling; in winter, for snowmobiling. This seasonal shift gives the area a distinct outdoor rhythm: the best time to visit depends on whether you want to use the trail in summer or go snowmobiling in winter. Prescott and Russell is in eastern Ontario, roughly halfway between Montreal and Ottawa.
Outdoor activities: trails and water attractions
Larose Forest has almost 29 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails for both classic skiing and skating. The different winter activities can be compared by type: snowmobiling on the Recreational Trail or cross-country skiing on the trails in Larose Forest. On the latter, you can choose between classic style and skating.
For the 2026 season, Calypso Waterpark is listed as having 35 slides and 100 water attractions. Park features may change from season to season, so check the information for the relevant season before your visit. This will help you plan your visit around what is available in the year you want to go.
History and regional discoveries
L'Orignal Old Jail is the oldest jail in Ontario and the second oldest in Canada. It offers guided tours and historical reenactments. A visit therefore combines two different ways of exploring history: a tour of the jail and staged portrayals of historical events. In the broader destination of Ontario, Le Chenail’s program includes performances, art exhibitions and community activities; specific offerings change over time. Unlike the tours and reenactments at L'Orignal Old Jail, it offers a broader cultural perspective.
Discover cheese and wine
At the St-Albert Cheese Co-Op, visitors can tour the factory and see how cheese is made. St-Albert cheese is made with 100% Canadian milk. The St-Albert Cooperative Cheese Manufacturing Association was founded by Franco-Ontarian dairy farmers in St-Albert, Ontario. Together, the production tour, the product and the story of its founding offer a tangible insight into the area’s cheesemaking tradition.
Vankleek Hill Vineyard offers a different perspective on regional products: the winery offers tours and wine tastings. This gives you two different food and drink experiences to choose from—a look at cheesemaking at St-Albert and tours with tastings at the winery.
