Nature and cultural attractions in the Regional Municipality of Peel are spread across several communities. Examples from Caledon, Mississauga and Brampton showcase the variety, from conservation areas and riverside trails to historic houses and museum collections. In the broader travel region of Ontario, the 540-hectare Claireville Conservation Area extends across Peel and Toronto as a natural and forested area.

Nature trails and varied landscapes

In Mississauga, Riverwood offers an urban natural space on the banks of the Credit River. The 150-acre nature reserve has a public trail network. The Riverwood Conservancy offers guided nature walks, and maps are also available for self-guided tours. You can choose between a guided experience and exploring on your own.

Hiking and picnicking are among the popular activities at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. Fishing is also permitted, subject to the applicable seasons and restrictions under Ontario’s fishing regulations. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are allowed on the trails. The trails are not maintained or groomed during this time, so caution is advised.

Albion Hills Conservation Park adds to this selection with more than 50 kilometres of double-track and technically challenging single-track trails. There are also cross-country ski trails; seasonal conditions may vary. The trail types and the different figures for their extent offer a concrete point of comparison for distinguishing among the nature experiences in Caledon.

Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area is in Mississauga, where trails and places to spend time meet the lakeshore landscape. Its trail network is accessible, and the grounds include boardwalks, viewpoints and places to spend time. The network totals 3.6 kilometres, including 1.9 kilometres of the Waterfront Trail. The area also includes an Indigenous Teaching Amphitheatre. The stated trail length and listed facilities give a sense of scale that differs from the extensive trail network at Albion Hills.

Museums, history and local stories

In Brampton, PAMA explores the culture and heritage of the Peel region, focusing on local, Canadian and global stories. Art, artifact and archival collections, exhibitions and programs help visitors make new connections with the surrounding communities. Offerings include tours, events, workshops and programs for all ages throughout the year; individual offerings vary.

The Bradley Museum comprises four historic buildings. Self-guided tours take visitors through the outbuildings and around the grounds. Changing exhibitions and a program and event space in the Anchorage Building round out the visit. Benares Historic House highlights Georgian architecture and a history spanning more than 165 years. An interpretive gallery, changing exhibitions and presentations, and original family objects from four generations offer different ways to connect with the history of the house. A fully guided tour explores the lives and stories of early Black settlers in Mississauga through artifacts, images, maps and interactive activities. It is intended for visitors of all ages; tour times may vary.

Adamson Estate is also a historic property, located in Mississauga’s Lakeview neighbourhood. The mansion opened to the public in 2025 and at the time offered exhibitions and programs from the Museums of Mississauga.

Trip-planning highlights

Those looking to combine nature and regional history will find a wide range of themes in Peel, rather than just one type of outing. In Caledon, Spirit Tree Estate Cidery offers a guided tour that includes visits to the orchard, cellar and production facility, as well as a tasting of three of its most popular ciders. The visit combines insights into production with a culinary offering. Alongside hiking and conservation areas, it adds another dimension to the region’s museums and historic houses.

The examples are spread across several communities, so tailor your search to the places and themes you actually want to include in your plans.
