The Embro Highland Games take place every year on July 1 in the village of Embro; the Fall Fair takes place every year on the third weekend of September in Embro. For a different focus, consider the Embro Pond Conservation Trail, Embro CA north of the village, and local cultural offerings. This lets you choose a visit based on fixed event dates or nature and culture themes.

Trails and outdoor activities

The Embro Pond Conservation Trail is designated in Embro as a hiking and walking trail and is 2.4 km long. It is also designated for birdwatching and as a nature trail. Its stated length and range of nature-related themes provide concrete points of reference for planning a visit.

Nearby, north of the village of Embro, lies Embro CA, on a 29-acre (11 ha) site. Its 2.7 km trail network passes through the conservation area and into the County Forest; cross-country skiing is permitted. Embro CA also has a picnic shelter, picnic tables, benches and a small parking lot.

Another option is Memorial Park in Embro: it has a splash pad, play equipment and a basketball court, and is next to the baseball field in Matheson Park. If the trail or a municipal recreation facility is an important part of your plans, check for current information in advance.

Events throughout the year

The Embro Highland Games take place every year on July 1 in the village of Embro and are hosted by the Caledonian Society. They are considered the oldest Highland Games in Ontario. The program includes a 10 km road race, heavy athletic competitions, tug-of-war, Highland dancing, solo bagpiping and pipe bands. Scottish vendors are represented on the Avenue of the Clans.

The Fall Fair takes place every year on the third weekend of September in Embro and is hosted by the Embro & Zorra Agricultural Society. Along with the July event, it offers another recurring occasion around which to plan your travel dates.

The Embro Tractor Pull brings farmers from across Ontario together for a competition. It takes place over the Civic Holiday weekend; specific dates vary from year to year.

Culture and gathering places

Embro Town Hall is a historic building: formerly used as a municipal office and jail, it now houses a local theatre and a library. The Thistle Theatre stages two productions a year; past performances have included plays about local heritage.

The Embro-Zorra Community Centre opened in 1976 and underwent extensive renovations in 2010. Serving Embro and the surrounding area, it has a 600-seat arena that can be rented for public or private use. Exploring Embro therefore includes not only trails and event dates, but also cultural venues and a rentable arena.
