Stirling brings together agricultural history, railway heritage and live performances. Farmtown Park is home to the Hastings County Museum of Agricultural Heritage; Stirling Festival Theatre offers live entertainment and operates year-round. When planning your visit, it is worth keeping the different timeframes in mind: Farmtown Park and some offerings at Stirling Grand Trunk Railway Station are seasonal, while theatre programming and market dates have their own schedules.

Agricultural history at Farmtown Park

Farmtown Park brings together several aspects of agricultural history. The museum covers cheese and butter making as well as the development of farm machinery. Heritage Village includes a rural small town from the 1930s. Another collection can be found in the Dairy Building: it houses the Quinte Agricultural Wall of Fame. Together, these exhibits offer an overview of dairy processing, technological changes in agriculture and the recognition of agricultural figures.

Visits can be planned seasonally: Farmtown Park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the May Two-Four Weekend through September 30; last admission is at 3 p.m. As these opening hours apply to a specific period, check them again before travelling. This helps you plan your museum visit around the seasonal opening period rather than assuming the stated hours apply year-round.

Railway history and theatre

Stirling Train Station is a historic building that was in operation from 1879 to 1962. The Stirling Rotary Club renovated and restored it. The station tells a different kind of local story from Farmtown Park’s agricultural themes: here, the focus is on the building’s former use and its preservation.

The Stirling Grand Trunk Railway Station offers museum tours and visitor information seasonally, between the Victoria Day weekend and Labour Day. Check in advance whether tours are available on your travel dates. Stirling Festival Theatre, by contrast, focuses on the stage: the theatre produces and presents a variety of live entertainment. Its recurring annual program includes pantomimes, musicals and comedies. It also offers educational programs for young people throughout the region. The theatre operates year-round; check the specific program separately for your visit.

Seasonal markets and dates

The Farmers’ Market runs from June to October in the Covered Bridge parking lot in downtown Stirling. The season provides a general timeframe, but you should still check the current market dates in advance. A Christmas market is also held every November as part of the village’s holiday season. If you want to plan your stay around a specific market, you can take these two recurring timeframes into account when choosing your travel dates, without mistaking them for year-round offerings.

A route starting in Stirling

The Lay of the Land route begins and ends at historic Station Park in Stirling and connects the village to the Trans Canada Trail. This offers another starting point for travel planning alongside the museum, railway history, theatre and seasonal events.
