A trip to Minden can combine art, local history and nature without every experience following the same format: the Agnes Jamieson Gallery has a permanent collection of more than one hundred works by André Lapine and exhibits work by regional and local visual artists. The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village focuses on historic buildings and self-guided tours. There is also a multimedia walk in the town centre, nature exhibits and trails. Seasonal opening hours and the current status of individual locations are therefore also important when planning.
Art and local history
At the Agnes Jamieson Gallery, the permanent collection and exhibitions by regional and local visual artists offer different points of interest for art lovers. The Minden Hills Cultural Centre regularly hosts artist talks; individual dates vary. If a talk is important to your stay, check the specific dates before your trip.
The Minden Hills Museum & Heritage Village consists of five historic buildings that were moved here to preserve and celebrate Minden’s history. Self-guided tours are offered from the Victoria Day weekend through the Thanksgiving weekend. Dates may change. Plan this activity with your travel dates in mind rather than assuming it will be available outside this seasonal period.
Nature topics at the Cultural Centre
Nature’s Place is an interpretive centre at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre. Interactive displays and exhibits explore the ecology of the Haliburton Highlands. Educational and demonstration events about birds of prey are also held there. Individual sessions may be seasonal or scheduled irregularly, so check their dates separately if you plan to attend one. This distinguishes the exhibit topics from events tied to specific dates.
Walks and waterfront locations
Stepping into Nature Riverwalk is a self-guided multimedia walk in downtown Minden. Its format differs from the seasonal museum tours and events: it centres on a walk with multimedia content, while the other activities require you to consider a time period or a specific date.
The Minden Walking Trail is 2.0 km long and open year-round; its length may change if the trail is extended. The approximately 0.4 km-long Minden Boardwalk, by contrast, is currently closed due to fluctuating water levels. The two trails therefore differ both in their stated length and current status. If your plans depend on the boardwalk, check its status before visiting.
The Peck Street Boat Launch is also currently closed. It is located in downtown Minden on the Gull River. If you plan to visit this spot, take the closure into account and check its status beforehand.
More activities in the area

If you plan to visit the preserve, check the applicable membership requirements, as they may change. The skatepark near the village of Minden has several ramps and rails for skateboards and bicycles. As well as nature and water activities, the area offers options for people interested in skateboarding or cycling.
