Saint Margaret Village and its distinctive features
Saint Margaret Village was built on the slopes of Cape North Massif, making the massif a defining feature of the local landscape. Three other points of interest help put the village views in context: the churchyard of St Margaret’s of Scotland Church, Bay St. Lawrence Road, and the Bay St. Lawrence Community Centre.
Cape North Massif can be seen from the churchyard of St Margaret’s of Scotland Church in Saint Margaret Village. Deadmans Pond can be seen from Bay St. Lawrence Road in Saint Margaret Village. These are two distinct sightlines: one from the churchyard to the massif, and one from the road to the pond.
The Bay St. Lawrence Community Centre provides free public washrooms for the travelling public, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The centre also serves the social, health, and recreational needs of the Bay St. Lawrence community. For trip planning, it is a practical landmark with a clearly identified public facility.

In Victoria County, Cabots Landing provides access to a 3-kilometre beach trail. A memorial cairn at the Cabots Landing National Historic Site commemorates the landing of explorer John Cabot. For a different kind of hike, a 2.6-kilometre round trip leads through deciduous forest to Uisge Bàn Falls, a 15-metre-high waterfall in a granite gorge. The two trail descriptions represent different landscapes and formats: a beach trail on the one hand, and a forest hike to a waterfall on the other.
Cape Smokey Provincial Park in Victoria County offers a 10-kilometre trail with viewpoints along 275-metre-high granite cliffs. Bald eagles and various hawk species can often be spotted along the cliff line. Baile nan Gàidheal | Highland Village is a living history museum and folklore centre that shares the history, language, and living culture of Nova Scotia’s Gaels. The Gaelic College is located in the St. Ann’s Bay area of Victoria County.
At the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, the White Glove Tour offers a behind-the-scenes look and the chance to handle Alexander Graham Bell’s personal mementos and models.
