A public 9-hole golf course, lobster traditions and a small beach overlooking the wharf give Hunts Point several distinct highlights. When planning your trip, consider both the season and whether you want to focus on golf, fishing traditions, swimming or trails.

Lobster Season and the Local Season Opening

Hunts Point is a hub of activity during lobster season. In Queens County, the season runs from the last Monday in November through May 31; regulatory changes may affect these dates. The first day of lobster fishing is known locally as “dumping day.” To mark the start, fishermen’s families gather at the wharves at dawn to watch the boats head out. If you want to plan your trip around the season, check the dates in advance.

Golf and Beach

White Point Golf Club is a public 9-hole golf course that offers green fee options. Confirm the current green fee options before booking. Hunts Point Beach is a small beach overlooking the wharf and a swimming spot. There are no facilities there; check the information about available amenities again before your trip, as it may change.

Trails with Different Statuses

The Hunts Point Trail is designated as a multi-use trail between Bog Rd and Silver Rock Dr in Hunts Point; in 2024, its previous designation as a footpath only was changed. A provincial road trail runs from the inland end of Beech Hill Road to the Hunts Point Trail, a former railway bed. The road trail’s status and conditions may change; check local notices before using it.

Dinner with Atlantic Lobster

Thursday Night Lobster Suppers include a dinner featuring a whole Atlantic lobster. Check the menu details again before your trip.

Queens County: Nature, Culture and a Route

The wider destination of Queens County offers other distinct nature and cultural themes. The Shelburne River Wilderness Area protects almost 3,500 hectares of remote wilderness in the lower Shelburne River watershed. The Peppered Moon Nature Reserve preserves an undisturbed coastal forest as habitat for rare lichens, including the peppered moon lichen.

Kejimkujik Seaside is a free day-use park where visitors can explore trails and a beach; the Harbour Rocks Trail and Port Joli Head Trail are also part of the park. People of all ages can cycle in Kejimkujik National Park. The Queens County Museum features exhibits on Mi’kmaq history, early medicine, maritime history and wartime memorabilia. There, visitors can step aboard a replica deck of the famous privateer ship “Liverpool Packet” and learn why Liverpool was known as the “Port of the Privateers.”

The Kejimkujik Scenic Drive (Highway 8) connects Liverpool with Annapolis Royal and passes through Milton, Middlefield and Caledonia. Along with protected areas, trails and museum themes, Queens County also offers places to visit along a specifically named road route.
