Armstrong combines an annual agricultural and community festival with a museum, a well-equipped park and a range of cultural offerings. The IPE & Stampede provides a clear reason to visit, while the museum, recreational facilities and stage appeal to other interests. You can therefore tailor your stay around a festival, culture or outdoor activities.

The IPE & Stampede and the Seasonal Market

The Armstrong IPE & Stampede is rooted in agriculture, community and the spirit of friendly competition. It has become an annual tradition, runs for five event days and takes place at the Armstrong Fairgrounds. The program includes livestock shows, agricultural displays, rodeo evenings, live entertainment, rides, vendors, food and dances. Family-friendly experiences are also part of the event. Individual program items may vary from year to year.

The local Farmers’ Market is also held at the Armstrong Fairgrounds. It offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, handicrafts, homemade baked goods and live entertainment. The seasonal market therefore takes place at a different time from the annual festival.

Museum, Gallery and Theatre

In Armstrong’s historic centre, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum features recreations of a railway station, a schoolroom, a general store and a blacksmith’s workshop. Its themes range from transportation and education to commerce and crafts. A visit to the museum thus brings together different aspects of public life in one exhibition.

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Art Gallery has two exhibition spaces. For the 2026 season, plans called for monthly art exhibitions featuring solo and group shows; exhibition dates may change. The local amateur theatre company, Asparagus Theatre, stages several productions each year to entertain the public. The annual program may vary.

Park, Water and Recreation

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Memorial Park includes a playground, a spray park and a skatepark, as well as picnic areas, flower beds and a cenotaph. The park also has a public outdoor pool and a heated wading pool. The combination ranges from play and water activities to picnic facilities, making the park a distinct focus alongside the museum and events.

The Hassen Memorial Arena offers lacrosse, roller skating, indoor trade shows and community events. In winter, public skating and organized ice hockey are also available. If skating is part of your plans, check the current schedule before your trip.

For time outdoors, Armstrong also has a beautiful network of trails. It offers another focus for a stay that is not centred solely on events, exhibitions or activities at the arena.

Choose Your Travel Dates Based on What You Want to Do

The offerings take place at different times: the IPE & Stampede is an annual tradition spanning five event days, the Farmers’ Market is seasonal and public skating is available in winter. Monthly exhibitions were planned at the gallery for the 2026 season. These differences can help you choose your travel dates based on what you want to focus on; individual festival programs may vary from year to year, and exhibition dates may change.
