Socorro is located in the Serra da Mantiqueira. The city has many facets, including a route along the Rio do Peixe, viewpoints, adventure activities and a historic center. If you’re looking for a hotel in Socorro, you can first consider which of these aspects of the destination you want to shape your stay: outdoor activities, flying and adventure activities, culture or a taste of local products.

Nature along the Rio do Peixe and distinctive landscapes

The Trilha do Rio in Parque da Cidade “João Orlandi Pagliusi” is 1.2 kilometers long and intended for hiking and cycling. The round trip totals 2.4 kilometers. The route runs through the Atlantic Forest alongside the Rio do Peixe; birds and lizards can be spotted along the way. As well as providing a clearly stated distance, the trail offers access to forest and river landscapes. Socorro’s terrain also features fast-flowing rivers such as the Rio do Peixe.

Gruta do Anjo offers a different natural setting. It was formed in a quarry that closed in 1995 and contains a lake with crystal-clear water. Parque Pedra Bela Vista also combines landscape and nature conservation: the private area has been restored with native Atlantic Forest seedlings. These places illustrate different aspects of Socorro’s surroundings, from a riverside route to a lake in a former quarry.

Views and adventure activities

Pico da Cascavel is 1,230 meters high and is used for paragliding and hang gliding. From there, you can look out over Socorro in a valley surrounded by the Serra da Mantiqueira. Availability from providers may vary; if you’re planning either flying activity, check with the provider in advance to confirm whether it’s possible.

Several parks are also associated with the city’s adventure tourism. Parque de Aventura Monjolinho is one of its pioneers. Parque Aui Mauê was also a pioneer and is located along the Rio do Peixe tourist route. Parque Pedra Bela Vista offers Brazil’s largest swing, rappelling from a height of 98 meters and caving. These activities may change; check which options are available at the time of your visit. Mirante da Cachoeira Central offers a different perspective on an activity: from there, you can watch rafting participants set off.

Historic heritage and exhibitions

The city includes a historic center with mansions dating from the early 20th century. The Centro Cultural Movimento houses an exhibition featuring motorcycles, helmets, racing suits, clothing and trophies, as well as hundreds of original historical documents. Alongside the architecture, the collection brings together a range of objects and historical documents.

The municipality’s history also includes the Maria Fumaça 208. The Maria Fumaça 208 operated in the region until the mid-1960s; today, it is part of Socorro’s historical heritage.

Shopping and local products

Feira Permanente de Malhas is a tourist shopping destination in Socorro. Empório do Mirante stocks local products including coffee, cachaça, homemade sweets, cheese and beer. The selection may change; if you’re going there for a particular product, check in advance to see what’s currently available.

Socorro can be explored through a range of interests when planning your trip: Trilha do Rio combines a stated trail length with opportunities to observe nature, while Pico da Cascavel and the adventure parks offer views and activities. The historic center, exhibition and Maria Fumaça 208 provide a different focus.
