Parque Estadual Vassununga is home to the largest concentration of pink jequitibá trees in the state of São Paulo. Among them is the Patriarca: it is the largest specimen in the state and is open to the public. These giant trees are one of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro’s distinctive natural features.

Nature Among Giant Trees, Rivers and Waterfalls

The Trilha do Trilho do Trem combines riparian forest and railroad history along a 470-meter stretch. It follows a former railway branch through the forest to the Rio Bebedouro. The river is not only the trail’s destination but also part of a landscape where paths and former transport routes meet.

The waterfalls also differ in their features and access conditions. Cachoeira 3 Quedas consists of three successive waterfalls on the Rio Passa Quatro; a staircase with 360 steps leads to its lower section. Cachoeira SĂŁo Valentim is on the Rio Claro and has a drop of approximately 80 meters. Due to the operation of the hydroelectric plant, public access there is limited to the upper section of the waterfall.

From 970-meter-high Morro Itatiaia, panoramic views extend over the Vale do Rio Mogi, including the urban center of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro. The hill is also used for paragliding. Deserto do AlemĂŁo presents a different type of landscape: it was formed by a large erosional feature and dunes. Thus, viewpoints, river landscapes and erosion features offer distinct natural attractions.

Pilgrimage Routes and Cultural Heritage

The Igreja Matriz of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro was elevated to Santuário Santa Rita de Cássia on November 1, 2016. More than forty stained-glass windows in vivid colors define the sanctuary. It is listed as a stop or point of interest along the Caminho da Fé. The Christ the Redeemer statue on Morro Itatiaia is also connected to local pilgrimage traditions: it is the destination of several pilgrimages and pilgrimage routes, including the Caminho da Fé.

The Museu Histórico e Pedagógico Zequinha de Abreu offers insight into music history. Founded in 1969, the museum was designated a heritage site by CONDEPHAAT in 1981 and is housed in a decommissioned railway station building. It preserves and presents the music of José Gomes de Abreu. Personal belongings include handwritten scores, his piano, photographs, letters and furniture. The site thus connects a musical subject with a building from railroad history.

The Centro Cultural e Museu José Spadon is housed in a building restored in 2020, whose architecture and remains of the former prison have been preserved. Usina São Valentim offers a different historical perspective: inaugurated in 1911, it is one of the oldest hydroelectric plants in the state of São Paulo. Together, these sites illustrate different aspects of history, from buildings and institutions to hydroelectric power.

Markets, Events and Leisure Spots

Every Saturday, the Feira do Produtor takes place in Praça Zequinha de Abreu. It features a food area, handicrafts and horticultural products. On market day, the offerings thus include regional foods as well as handicrafts and gardening products. Praça Poeta Mário Mattoso is the venue for the Festival de Tradições Italianas.

Anfiteatro Américo Persin hosts dance, theater and music performances. It also offers Pontos-MIS film screenings for audiences of all ages. Casa da Banda Prof. Octavio Bueno de Camargo provides free music lessons to the public starting at age six. These cultural venues have different focuses: from attending a performance or film screening to taking music lessons.

Parque TurĂstico Municipal offers a swimming pool, lakes open to the public, a wooded area and a campground with capacity for up to 400 tents. Facilities at Deserto do AlemĂŁo include picnic kiosks, barbecue areas, restrooms, and sand courts for soccer and volleyball. Both places combine natural features with specific recreational offerings; Deserto do AlemĂŁo also has its distinctive landscape formed by erosion and dunes.
