Ribeirão Pires offers a range of ways to enjoy a stay combining nature, culture, and city views. One central spot is Parque Oriental, located in the Atlantic Forest on the shores of the Billings Reservoir. The park features themed gardens, lakes, and areas for sports, as well as a trail, a long rock relief, and a museum. You can explore the park with different interests in mind, whether nature, art, or history.
Nature and Art at Parque Oriental
The Trilha do Tapiá is 300 meters long, self-guided, and offers a chance to connect with the Atlantic Forest. It is a short path, not an extended hiking route. Check before your trip to see whether the trail is open. The themed gardens, lakes, and areas for sports offer a different experience from the Trilha: landscaped grounds and activity areas sit alongside the trail’s connection to nature.
Another feature of Parque Oriental is the Caminho da Evolução. This 515-meter-long rock relief was created by Izabel Vidal, an artist from Espírito Santo, and tells the story of the development of life on Earth. Unlike the Trilha, which focuses on connecting with the Atlantic Forest, this work is an artistic exploration of a subject in natural history.
The Museu Histórico Municipal Família Pires is also located in Parque Oriental. It preserves the social memory of Ribeirão Pires and has been housed in the Casa Toki Kumabe Nogami building since January 2023. Together with the rock relief, the museum gives the park a strong cultural dimension alongside its natural and recreational areas.
Activities associated with the Billings Reservoir include sailing, water sports, and fishing. If you want one of these activities to be a focus of your stay, check the specific conditions locally. That way, you can take this interest into account when planning without treating it as equivalent to the offerings of the park’s trails or gardens.
Chapel, Festival, and City Views
The Capela Nossa Senhora do Pilar was built in Ribeirão Pires in 1714. The Festa de Nossa Senhora do Pilar is held nearby each May. If you want to plan your visit around the festival, check the exact dates in advance. The chapel and festival thus offer two related opportunities to explore the town’s religious and historical heritage.
There are two distinct viewpoints for seeing the city. Mirante São José offers visitors views of Ribeirão Pires and is located at approximately 801 meters above sea level. The clock tower viewpoint at Centro Histórico e Literário Ricardo Nardelli, in turn, offers panoramic views across the city. The elevation applies to Mirante São José; the clock tower viewpoint is characterized by its location in Centro Histórico e Literário and its views over Ribeirão Pires.
Visits to the clock tower viewpoint are guided, take place in small groups, and require an advance appointment. Confirm the current booking arrangements before your visit. This lets you plan specifically for this viewpoint while taking into account the difference between the guided visit and the views from Mirante São José.
