Cultural history between the square and the complex
The Fonte Luminosa in Praça Dr. Euclydes Cardoso Castilho is a historic heritage site and a cultural symbol of the municipality of Novo Horizonte. W. Maguetas designed it in 1959 under the influence of Dr. Euclydes Castilho; it was inaugurated in 1962. This connects the landmark’s history to a specific square and the time when it was created.
Another cultural landmark is the “Alcides Luis Graciano Junior” tourist, cultural and sports complex. Construction began in 2023; the complex was inaugurated and is part of the municipality’s heritage. Together, the Fonte Luminosa and the complex represent different chapters of cultural heritage—from a work designed in 1959 to a more recent municipal cultural venue.
Pilgrimage route and regional events
The municipality of Novo Horizonte lies along the official Caminho da Fé route. It was added to the pilgrimage route in 2021; since then, pilgrims have passed through the municipality on foot, by bicycle and on horseback. The long-distance route leads toward the Santuário Nacional de Aparecida. Every year, thousands of people embark on this religious route, which is associated with faith, personal challenge, reflection and contact with nature.
In 2024, the Novo Horizonte municipal administration highlighted the Festa do Peão as an event with a major impact; according to its account at the time, the festival attracted thousands of visitors and boosted commerce and services, including bars and restaurants. Leisure activities in the municipality
Lagoa Municipal is considered one of the municipality’s main leisure areas and is frequently used by anglers. It is a gathering place for families; residents can fish there responsibly and sustainably for their own consumption. In 2025, the municipal administration installed two additional lighting points to improve visibility and safety for residents and visitors.
A walking trail was created in Parque Ecológico Walter de Biasi Filho. The park’s lake was formed by a dam built in 2007. The first phase of the complex delivered in the park also included a sand court for several sports.
The municipality’s adventure map lists eight possible cycling routes; the maps were created in 2021. Check the route and current conditions before setting out.
