Riverside spots along the Córrego Areão, fishing opportunities and a rich festival history shape Iacanga. Praia das Mangueiras and Praia das Palmeiras are on opposite banks; their roles range from fishing and camping by appointment to a leisure area in the town centre. Other attractions include the Aquário Municipal Escola Tietê, cycling tourism and Bolinho Iacanga, a local tilapia specialty. This means you can explore Iacanga from a range of interests: water-based recreation, culture, nature and regional cuisine.

Beaches along the Córrego Areão

Praia das Mangueiras is on the right bank of the Córrego Areão in Iacanga. It offers a leisure and overnight area for fishing and camping; use is by appointment. Praia das Palmeiras is on the left bank and also in the centre of Iacanga, and is a leisure area. The traditional Carnaval das Águas took place there from February 13 to 16, 2026. That edition has passed. If you are planning a future trip around the festival, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

Fishing in different formats

Pesqueiro JCN organises sport fishing competitions. The Festival de Pesca at Lago Municipal “José Seghimatz” welcomes more than 5,000 people. These examples differ in format and setting: one involves organised sport fishing competitions, while the other is a festival at the municipal lake that draws a large number of visitors.

Aquarium, green space and cycling tourism

The Aquário Municipal Escola Tietê displays aquariums with fish typical of the Rio Tietê. It is located in a large, green area suited to walks, picnics, reading and learning. The site combines nature observation with different ways to spend time in a green space. Cycling tourism is also one of the options in Iacanga, adding another type of activity to the mix.

Festival history and culture

The Festa do Peão is considered part of Iacanga’s cultural heritage and one of the region’s longest-running events. The Festival de Águas Claras offers a different historical perspective: in the 1970s, it was held at Fazenda Santa Virgínia in Iacanga. Known as the Brazilian Woodstock, it shaped the region’s hippie culture. The Festa do Peão thus represents a long festival tradition, while the Festival de Águas Claras marks a particular chapter in history. The Centro Cultural Santa Cecília hosts theatre performances, music shows, music and poetry recitals, as well as film screenings.

Bolinho Iacanga: a local specialty

Bolinho Iacanga is a tilapia specialty created by a long-established family from Iacanga; the confectioner Monica Toledo was responsible for its creation. This gives the dish a specific local connection: its origins are linked to a family from Iacanga and a creator known by name. For travellers who consider regional cuisine when choosing a destination, this specialty offers a culinary point of interest.
